Finally got a few timed runs in

Hi guys,

Ran a few timed 30m from blocks today. (Timed from first movement)

It is literally the first start/block workout of the year.

What do you think?

(Unfortunately I dont have any splits. We are getting the vid camera out for the next session and will probably tape an 80 meter from the blocks to see how the speed end stuff is holding up)

4 x 30m with 3-4 minutes rest from blocks.

Timed from first movement:

First rep: 4.12 felt sluggish and popped up too soon

Second rep: 4.06 Getting better

Third rep: 4.03 I was flying on this one, still accelerating very hard at the 30 meter mark

Fourth rep: 4.08 (felt a little tired on this one, could have used another minute or so recovery)

How do these times look for early in the year?

My goal is to try and get them solidly in the 3.9X range timed from first movement.

Micro is as follows:

Max V
Tempo/bodyweight circuit
Block work/short accel
Tempo/bodyweight circuit
Speed end/Hills
Tempo/bodyweight circuit
Rest

I insert extra rest days as needed. (Sometimes two)

Cheers,
Chris

These are good Chris!

Perhaps you didn’t need the fourth one to realise the drop in time; as 4.03 was ok for you, as you say, you could have stopped there -not that the last one hurt…

Perhaps a bit longer recoveries help you maintain all times at a higher level? Or as season goes on, I suppose?

Good work!

Thanks Nikoluski!

I was pleasantly surprised at the times. My training parter was flying today as well. Couple of 4.12’s and then a 3.96 and a 4.00.

I wasn’t sure when to stop. The 4.08 rep felt tiring so I figured that would be enough.

I really wanted to hit a 3.9X but didn’t have enough in me today

block work and short accels will be in the micro from now till comp time. we’ll also introduce reaction drills etc.

The speed endurance stuff I’ll rotate between hills on grass with short recoveries and work on the track.

Max V will stay in place on the track.

Reducing the volume and intensity of my weight training has made a huge difference so far.

I am just hoping things keep progressing and we do not get injured (knock on wood!)

Cheers,
Chris

Faster times will come, I believe; the good thing would be to have them when you want them…

If a good GPP is there, you’ve already minimised an injury risk, since you are aware of good recovery in your trianing, I believe; all will be good!

When is a good target race for you? When did you start reducing weights?

I am hoping to run well in the Ontario Masters Champs July 9-10th weekend. (100 and 200 most likely)

I’ll probably get 4-5 tune up meets before then.

I am actually considering running a 100m next wednesday just as a baseline

Cheers,
Chris

I see!

It sounds good then!

To be honest I asked, because you talked about having started reducing weights; will you be in a maintenance face from now on till 9-10th July?

Yes, have 4-6 races till then and you’ll be ready!

Let us know!

Probably will be in maintenance phase for the rest of the summer as far as weights goes.

I was lifting like crazy all winter so I am enjoying the break

LOL!

All the best!
