Having just made the switch from asphalt to track and running my first 80s i realise that i dont really step over until about 55 meters-My question would be:
Apart from technical work on track(flying 20s etc…) is this also a strenght issue ,and should i just be patient and wait for the strenght to catch up(with ambition that is…)
He can run a reasonable 60m but then struggles to hold form at top speed.
He is hoping to run around 7.25e for 60m in the next two months which we estimate will given him the potential to run about 11.2e if we get the last 40m right.
Nevertheless, having geared the training along your methods, that being to focus on speed early in the preparation, how do you recommend that he improves his last 40m.
My plan, again in line with your methods, was to increase the training distance but only after he fulfils his potential in relation to a certain distance. The other night he did 2 reps over 30m, 1 over 40m and 1 over 50m. Timing was from when he moves which I estimate to be around 0.4-0.5 less than electric timing. He got 4.0 (30m), 5.06 (40m), and 6.09 (50m) in perfectly still conditions. He does about 5 reps of 60m around 7.2 from whe he moves on the other main training day.
Am I right to keep the distances short and move up the training distances slowly. His peak will be next February so I am planning to work on the 60m until late October, before carrying out longer distances (80-200) for 2 months while doing one pure speed session a week (60m). My plan is to get his technique and power right for 60m, then move one session up to 80m to he gets that right, then 100m, then 150m and finally 200m.
At the moment, he does two quality sessions a week followed by leg weights. Given he weighs 67kg, we are aiming for 6 reps on 130kg squats (at least parallel) given that he has already done 6 reps on 125kg several weeks ago. This will be vastly superior to the 6 reps on 112.5 kg he managed during the last running season.
