Is soreness to be expected when using ems for strength? I used a compex sport on my quads and glutes and I was sore for days afterwards. Is that to be expected? Or is this over doing it?
Thanks

Are you using a pulsing mode before and after??
Short answer, yes.
I used the pre-programed strength training routine that come on the compex unit. So it does a pulse for 10 min then it switched to hard contractions with light pulses in between for 20 min. The unit finished off with a pulsing mode (cool down) for 10 min. I felt ok but then I was extremely sore for days after. It was a very deep soreness. Sore down to the bone. The soreness passed but I was just wondering if this happened b/c my muscles are weak??
Thanks!
Not from weakness. More likely from strong muscles(huge contraction) and lack of familiarity.
I had the muscle soreness after the first time i used it.
When i did ems yesterday though i normally can only handle 4 out of 8 on the adjuster but yesterday i went to 5 with no problems. Is that normal to have that kind of jump
(Meaning turning the dial up from 4 to 5) It can mean that you are developing a higher tolerance to a higher contraction OR it can mean that the muscles are tired and you need more current to achieve the same level of contraction. It’s a bit hard to speculate from a distance. Can you tell if the contraction is, in fact, stronger by appearance or feel?
Certainly in terms of level of contraction you can jump quickly with Compex. I remember my first session I got to 50 and thought the system went upto 100. One session ten i was at 450 and still no end to the scale!
As for increasing level throught a session, certainly your tollerence to pain decreases throughout the sessions.
As for DOMS I never got it with EMS but I used the full warm up on the Compex and used pulsing on days off.
I used the strength training mode at level 5 and the strength of the current at level 50ma (it goes up to 100milliamps) The contraction was very strong. Maybe I went too hard. I just cant see how people use it up to 99ma. I think I would tear something…
The contraction that I felt at level 5, felt as the same intensity as it did for level 4 the week before. I had no DOMS the day after as well.
