Detox

I have an 8 day recovery block starting next week and thought as part of it I will probably do a moderate detox. Nothing too radical partly because my diet isn’t that bad right now (2x cofee, plenty of fruit & vege, nuts & seeds etc)

I had a read of http://www.nzs.com/new-zealand-articles/lifestyle/detox-diets.html and thought of something like a modified Liver detox where I would

Eliminate coffee, dairy products, meat, sugar and processed foods.
Increase water intake (been a bit slack lately)

An average day’s meals might be:

Thirty minutes before breakfast: 2 glasses of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Breakfast: Apple, 6 x whole eggs scrambled

Mid morning: green tea, nuts & seeds

Lunch; protein shake with flaxseed, fish oil tabs

Mid afternoon: Pear, apple

Dinner: Steamed vegetables

Did you get this idea from new CF product? I am not so sure does detox really work (too much of commercial stuff with that detox), but sometimes I actually feel the need to detox whatever that means… more fruits and water and avoid animal products… maybe even starving a day or two, drinking only water, herbal tea or fresh juice. Believe it or not, I had some mental issues in high school (don’t know what was it, maybe it was only adolescence lol), yet after a 3-4 days water starvation I managed to cool my brain and relax.

That idea of drinking warm water and lemon in the morning comes from Ayurveda, Ancient Indian Medicine… Don’t know exactly how it works, but I was reading couple of books on the subject and there they say it clears mala, or the food left in your gut… Don’t know does this really works and all that stuff about detox, but sometimes my body really needs ‘cleaning’…

Please keep us informed… good luck

And avoid clistir John

Not really, this is most definitely not mentioned at all there but I have thought about a detox before and then watching the movie made me think further about the whole of body affect of a recovery block, sorry if that sounds all new agey but I couldn’t think how to explain it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I kinda like your menu.
But why does the morning water have to be warm?

St. Patricks Day must have been rough John

I guess warm water blunt hunger…???

I haven’t drunk any alcohol for over 6 1/2 years

Stef,
I guess (and it is a guess) that it may be linked to ease of digestion.

An average day’s meals might be:

Thirty minutes before breakfast: 2 glasses of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Lemon Juice helps neutralize your body’s Acidity leves

Breakfast: Apple, 6 x whole eggs scrambled Not sure if an apple would go down well with Egg - fruit works fantastic on an empty stomach, otherwise the egg will keep it in the gut for longer than normal and it will rott…

Mid morning: green tea, nuts & seeds - you could swap your daily coffee with the green tea, so a few more could be had?

Lunch; protein shake with flaxseed, fish oil tabs

Mid afternoon: Pear, apple

Dinner: Steamed vegetables - perhaps a protein shake as well afterwards? Protein is good for the immune system - since you have been sick? Again, to keep the Calories up, add some quality oils like at lunch time.

lymphomiosot/HEEL for a good lymphatic and liver detox.

30 drops/day with 500 ml of water - drink during the day.

Starving for 3-4 days will make your brain prior other stuff… I think basically our brain is made to always strive for the better, so if you got good access to food and shelter, you will start worrying about other stuff…
If you take away something that got high priority, like food, it will reset your thinking patterns.

For example, after 8 months of boot camp, sleeping outside in the middle of the winter with bad access to food.
I’ve never been so happy like I was after those 8 month intensive military training.

Just sleeping in a real bed and be able to sleep as long as I wanted was so totally awesome!
It lasted for about two years.
Now I only get that happy if I eat luxury food and buying expensive hi-fi equipment :stuck_out_tongue:

I wont bore you all with day by info but I started this today, thanks for the input. I have settled on something along the lines of

Thirty minutes before breakfast: 2 glasses of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Each day I’ll make a mix of

750ml of water
6 Tbsp pure maple syrup (no added sugar)
6 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

have a large glass of that warm before breakfast and drink rest throughout day.

Breakfast: 6 x whole eggs scrambled, fish oil tabs

late morning: green tea, nuts & seeds

mid / late afternoon, protein shake with flaxseed, Pear, apple, banana, fish oil tabs

Dinner: Steamed vegetables & protein shake

I’ll probably have some steamed fish a couple of times for dinner as well.

I can say the drink has a kick

all finished and actually wasn’t that bad, in fact at times I actually seriously considered adopting this as my way of eating  . I ended up not having any fish. Only real day that was a bit tough was day 3 but even that wasn’t that bad.

I will definitely do again with next recovery block but probably only 5-6 days as it got a bit boring after that. Doing it with the recovery block worked really well as I often find when resting for a time like that I end up pigging out and packing on weight whereas on this although I will weigh my self when I get back (out of town for work) as at yesterday morning (day 8) I had lost about 1.75kg (4lbs).

Interestingly today was first day off this and although day was fine I was hanging out for veges for dinner.
