Decreasing 40 time

I am 6’2" 235 and I run a 5.0 40-yard dash. I feel like I will not get looked at by any big schools to play linebacker or fullback just because my 40 time sucks. I am already gonna lose 10 pounds but I don’t know how much that is ognna help, any suggestion please let me know.

trust me on this. the way this training is set up isnt the usual and some people would disagree with me but in 3 months i went from a 5.16 to a 4.69, and then a month later i ran 4.57. here it is:

monday: 4x40y build ups, 6x40y sprints/weights
tuesday: plyometrics/6x20y rope pulls/weights
wednesday: same as monday
thursday: same as tuesday
friday: weights

the weights include mainly cleans, bench and squat all with variations. but this program really works, i dropped my time 6 tenths of a second.
hope this helps.

Hey DBjohn sorry to ask some questions that are probably very basic, i normally stick to the strength training section so some terms are a little foreign to me.

If you could descrbe what buildups and rope pulls are it would be fantastic.

Build ups usually mean graduall intensification of the warm ups.
e.g 1st 40yds in 6.5 secs, 2nd in 6-6.1, 3rd in 5.5, 4th in 5.2 ish secs
(for a 5 second 40yd sprinter) now your body is primed for proper training sprints at faster/fastest speeds.
