Every time I train for the past few months now I keep getting Cramp during the session forcing me to stop the cramp ranges from small to very severe and pain full, but it is in both legs (calf’s) that it keeps occuring is there anything I can do to sort it out, couch just keeps saying pattasium
I’ve seen the same thing to a friend of mine; diet (type/timing) could be a reason, although more info could also help.
Myofascial problem (i.e. nerve entrapment), spinal problem, electrolyte (cal/mag) imbalance…are common cause.
generally if its chemical imblance its to do with calcium and magnesium.
so you can try a supplement, or you may need to get some regular massage therapy work.
I’ve had that problem in the past when I was taking el-cheapo creatine (a CEE). My legs would cramp up every speed session often putting me .2 to .3 off pace for 30m starts.
dont take creatine, do take vit n min as well as omega 3
Diet not brilliant but ok! flexibility still needs to get better but has improved over past year!
Im ok for a few reps and then its bang as soon as start a new set and put power on the calf and then one of them decided to cripple me and they take turns as to which one gonna go
Have you tried an electrolyte drink before and during training. At the very least try some Poweraid.
TC
add L-taurine 1gram 3x a day empty stromach
add sea salt to yur water
must admit I dont drink any thing special other then about a litre of water
worth a try, I mean last thursday my right leg completely cramped and locked my entire leg, my coach had to help me off the track
Have you considered your footwear as the source of the problem? What kind of spikes are you using? How old are they? What kind of flats are you using for your other running? How old are they?
Regarding your training, roughly how volume of speed work are you doing per session? Per week? What other loading are the calves subjected to in the training program?
What exercise, sprinting, jumping, etc… are you performing prior to the cramping.
Tom
prior to the cramp is just sprinting, I can do weights and tempo no prob
I wear middle distance spikes as I thought they may help with the cushioning and they are now only 3 month old
