Conjugate Method for sprinters

this summer i was introduced to the conjugate method of weight training. i realized that it seemed more ideal for sprinters than the western periodization. it increases strength and speed at the same time by doing Max effort lifts on Mon. and Tue. and Dynamic method on Thur and Fri. i got big gains this summer in my squat going from 295 to 325 in 3 months. and bench from 235 to 255. Charlie, i would like to know your opinion on the conjugate method for sprinters.

any good sprint program is conjugate method bc u should be working all components - sprints for speed, weights for strength, throws and jumps for power, tempo for fitness etc. when u r doing speed work no need for dym day in weight room. squats squats would be more strength speed work for sprinters.

Westside isn’t the only interpretation of conjugate (in fact many would argue it isn’t really conjugate for anything other than max strength in squat and bp). CFTS and most hi/lo schemes where you do sprints/weights/tempo/etc. as UT said is conjugate FOR THE PARTICULAR SPORT. Keep that in mind as it makes a big difference in how it would be applied.

Davan is absolutely correct. Westside is not Conjugate Sequence System training at all. If anything it resembles more the concurrent system if we’re using eastern european terminologies. Not taking away anything from Westside as a phenomenol base template for getting strong.

I think you are wrong! Check this reply by James Smith!
Altought the Westside template is concurrent and doesn’t seem to define year cycles, westside lifters DO switch emphasis/priorities over the year while maintaining other stuff…

Also, jpspeeddemon check this thread

If interested James Smith has one maual in which he implemented both ideas from Westside and CFTS. It is called “Hi-Low manual”!
