Coach John Davies squat program

http://www.thexvest.com/articles/squat-workout-davies.pdf

have any of yall tried this program. and if yall have what should the amount of rest between sets be?

did yal get good results from it?

Why would you follow this program? What is your goal?

just to get a better squat.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Are you using your weight training to support another sport? What are the other components in your overall training program?

I only glanced at the program briefly, but the complexity and volume is not a good sign if this program is intended to be used to supplement other training. It looks like a prescription for over training to me. And Davies’ sarcastic comments about over training do not instill confidence.

Keep john davies off of this site, please. I’m begging you.

whats the matter speedkills, you dont like his renegade training, special vests and pink shirts? :stuck_out_tongue:

Whoat those intensities are a kinda high for three times a week. I like some of the supplemental exercises and the GPP recovery between days. If you do the squat exercises plus the deadlifting and goodmornings with 80-85% after the squats you are going to be hurting. I’d say drop one of the days because i you make it through the first week you are going to be very over trained. If you have a descent bench you will probably have to kiss that good bye because this workout looks physically draining. My joints just hurt looking at the program.

I wonder if Davies actually has done this workout. This looks like something you’d find in a bodybuilding magazine because they know no one is going to be abel to make it through the program and be able to get good results.

John Davies or his qwackery have little to no place here at this website.

Come on Rupert, we could have a special John Davies, Charles Poliquin, Mark Versteegan, Juan Carlos Santana section of the forum where we can “let it all hang out.”

There is a store in Vancouver callled “Guru Bazaar” - maybe that is what we could call this section.

Fine #2, you begin.

Lets keep things are concise as possible. Poor John already got it good last month.

its not a bad program… hes alt heavy loads with light loading to try to confuse the muscle.

You’re going to need to do better than that UT.

Lets hear the full scoop on the program.

Thanks and look forward to understanding more…

Confuse the muscle, confuse the muscle…

Why would you want to (one more time) confuse the muscle? That’s like saying we will educate our students by first confusing them.

Well said…I give you more points now.

Confuse might not be the best word…but surprise and challenge the muscle might be a better word choice. Variety and repetition are two elements that must be balanced. What I hate is all of the “I need a new program to shock my system into growth” bull from average athletes. Here is a shock…

Put down the cell phone and toss your ipod away and get under the bar or warm-up with some effort.

This should get interesting…

I have learned the hard way…

Weights are supplemental to running only

This is especially true for the masters sprinter who has limited CNS stores to start with.

I was squatting and deadlifting like mad and all it did was slow me down. Now I let track work be the focus and things are coming around nicely

Cheers,
Chris

Surprise and challenge. Hmmmm. I can just picture Davies on his website dressed as a Ninja, standing behind the Hammer Jammer, poised to pounce on an unsuspecting trainee. That’s it, we can call it Ninja Conditioning. Just watch out for those throwing-stars during your agility training sessions.

He actually does things very similar. I read he pushes the athlete while squatting and has them close their eyes and react to signals or some bullshit. This along with stability ball squats and other instable training make up what he calls “imperfect training”.

Most appropriate name ever

(in the voice of the comic book guy from the Simpsons)

Wow, I was just joking around, not try to actually come up with a workout approach. Has he called any of his stuff “Dumbass Training”. When he does, please let us know.

“Alright Herb. We have you overhead squatting 130 kilos. I’m going to fire a few jabs into your mid-section and then knee you in the groin to simulate your Ultimate Fighting environment. This is a new approach I’ve come up with - Dumbass Training. It’s going to take off like wildfire.”
