Animals such as the Lion and Cheetah sleep up to 20hrs a day.
Is there something that can be learned and applied to humans?
Or is there something as too much sleep/rest for humans? Physiologically and biologically speaking of course.

I was told somewhere that Donovan slept 12 hours a day. I think it was him saying that in an interveiw. Governor Arnold, back when he was Mr. Olympia, would also train, party a bit and sleep and that was pretty much it. He would regularly have naps.
Thanks for the info Herb!
Clemson, being that you are supposed to be the recovery guru here, I would like to get your response, thanks!
Hey Clemson:
You seem to be skipping my post and answering everything else. Did I offend you? Or you don’t have an answer to the qusetion?
Holla at a bro, will ya?
Sleep? I like to add an extra hour to what you need during the day…during the summer (no school) go to bed when you are tired and record that. Wake up when you open your eyes from bordom…record time elapsed. Do again with the same bed time and this is your standard hours…most people vary from 6-9 hours and it’s best to use a plus 1 hour when training and take naps for doubles or triples if needed. The promise of sleep is a good book…
By the way, I am not a guru but a guy that remembers his mistakes.
Many thanks for the reply bro! Sounds like a good recipe!
how would you interpret constantly disrupted sleep? whether or not my alarm is set, i tend to wake up much earlier than i need to, sometimes after only 6 or 7 hours. i always turn over and go back to sleep, and often when i really do need to get up i can barely drag myself out of bed, or on weekends i wake up at 8 but crawl up at 11 or 12.
which number do i use?
You ought to change your title to: “The Most Powerful and Fastest and Laziest Animals Sleep 12-20 Hours Per Day.”
Acutally wouldn’t a kangaroo or frog be more powerful? If you had to hunt for your food everyday, I bet you’d need to sleep that much too.
Cheetahs and lions are not lazy, they are professionals!
LOL, they’re cats. They’re lazy.
There was a study in New Scientist last year that showed without artificial light, humans typically sleep for 10-14 hours a day depending on season.
Very interesting. I wasn’t aware of that…
go to the sleep research foundation or organization and they will say 8 hours is about optimal for healthy adults…
What about for elite/advanced athletes?
Well, I have researched this, will give some links if you want, but the reports I’ve read acknowledge that sleep need varies among individuals, and increases with a number of factors, stress among them. I don’t know if a controlled study has been done using athletes but what you could call anecdotal evidence suggests that sleep need increases during heavy training.
Sleep? What’s that?
I took a 2hr nap after a meal today and felt like freaking Heracles when I woke up! Rejuvenating.
My personal experience backs this up. I definitely need more sleep when I am training hard. This is also in-line with the reports suggesting that stress increases sleep need, since training can be thought of as simply a specific type of stress.
I have extra trouble sleeping after high intensity workouts? (6 hours later)
And ZMA is no longer in the equation, i really cant sleep when i take zma. No matter the dose or even if i take it a hour before bed.
