I think we need splits on this run asap.
Bolt ran his first competitive 100m last year before the world champs, I think he clocked 10 seconds flat on that one. Looks like he’s on a mission for Beijing. Imagine that Powell, Bolt and Gay lining up.
Watch the video. Had Bolt not slowed down, he would have broken the WR. This performance is extremely suspect. Only time will tell. Once again, this time is faster than the greatest sprinter of all time Maurice Greene who by the way is not doing too well. Didn’t Tim Montgomery run a 9.76? Where is he now?
Bolt has always been a super talent (world junior 200m record holder at 19.93s), it is just that he was always thought to be too tall to excel at 100m (dont know how that has to do with anything, but its just a way of thinking), however looks like he really takes to it now.
If Powell didnt slow down, he would have gone a 9.6
Oh man, it looks like for Olympics if you’re not capable of 9.8-9.7 you won’t even get a bronze?!
Where is the video? Thanks.
Really high standards…9.8 might not even be good enough if conditions are good.
Its further up on this page
His start was amazing. He is 6’6 and he got out on them. I hope that now one gets hurt so we can have an amazing season. I cant wait to see what bolt runs in the 200. Spearmon is looking at 3rd in the 200 again.

I wanna know his stride length and how many strides he took in this race because he is so tall compared to the competition
iaaf has him listed at a little over 6’3"
I think his performance was great!!! He got out very well for such a tall guy. I don’t see why this has to be “suspect” I wish him the best for the rest of the season!
Nice hip height!
Now why isn’t the image showing…
Am I the only one who thinks that this guy could also be a tremendous long jumper?
(i obviously mean it as nothing serious)
yes, you are the only one thinking about his long jump
he just ran the second fastest time ever at 100m… forget the LJ imo
First begin to understand how progression works with elite athletes and the ever present “ceiling” of improvement. Put Bolt’s performance into context. How many years did it take Maurice, Ato Boldon, Frankie Fredricks, and even Tyson Gay to “progress” and NONE of those listed above ever ran that fast. Didn’t Asafa progress the same way, going from a 10.30-under 9.9? Oh wait, the argument is that he “got serious and acquired a coach.” Is that not whats being said by Bolt now? Once again, the greastest sprinter of all time (statistically) never ran that fast (could have in 2000 if not injured), yet Bolt does it his second time running the 100 AND SLOWED DOWN. Is it not said that all things will be revealed? Shit, we don’t have to wait for this answer.
Please stop insinuating things.
It’s hard to measure Bolt’s progression when he almost never runs the 100m. Wasn’t this his third time running the race? Last year Asafa had an early season run of about 10.04, then ran 9.74 the same season.
I think Bolt only ran the 100m once last year, in his PB of 10.03. This year he runs 9.76 - the same improvement shown between Powell’s slowest and fastest races.
Congratulations to Bolt for an amazing run!
O.k. we will save this post for the archives. Reminds me of Gatlin’s race when he tied the world record of 9.76. Let the Olympics be a fucking circus and we will see where things end up in a few…
19.7 at 20 years old last year is pretty advanced on the development curve. kinda hard to bust a hot 100 when you don’t run it but once a year.
