Bolt 9.72 New 100m WR

I’m confused, is he designing the workouts himself or just overseeing the program given by Brauman?

Hey at least it’s Drummond in TX and not the Drob training camp in TX…

Wariner still ran 44.07 nothing to be worried about. Merritt has done more speed specific work than Wariner at this stage. I am still tipping JW to win in Beijing.

the 100m at the olympics will be very interesting… cant wait to see how they all go under the pressure as for jeremy wariner… i really dont think he can berak the world record

IMO…Merrit will win the Olympics. I saw him run his opener of 44.7 and that man is deffinitely on a mission!

Anyways…I’m not sure this cam up earlier, but it’s interesting to see how fast Bolt ran in only a few races. It was discovered earlier that Asafa ran as fast after approx 18, give or take, races. Bolt ran 9.76 in his 2nd or 3rd competitive race (I think) and in his first hundred. Interesting enough he opened up with his traditional 400m race. However, I believe it wasn’t as fast as past openers (I could be mistaken). That being said it would be very interesting to see the adjustments that were made in his training to allow such fast times, assuming he’s still using long to short program. Gatlin ran a 9.76 around the same time or exactly the same time of year that Bolt ran his 9.76, but he used a short to long approach.

Just some food for thought…

This was Bolt’s 4th 100m this year, and I believe he has done one 400m. His progression has been 10.03??, 9.76, 9.92, 9.72. Still very interesting to see the training adjustments!!

I think Bolt is what you would call a prodigy. He is obviously going to be the new face of Track And Field.

I’ve got to believe that the success he had last year and from late '06 in the 200 have helped this process. His initial 50m on the turn in Osaka and other 200 races was consistently good, as memory serves.

Certainly, the strength of his acceleration and maximal speed phases have improved. By the way, I saw some numbers from his 9.72 race on run-down.com. Can’t speak to the accuracy of it. I’m certain PJ and others will debunk it.

Yeah his bends were awesome last year. Even if you look at some of the races where Spearmon pipped him, he still got out well, including the World Cup in 2006. Did the splits you saw tell you anything significant??

Probably what stood out the most to me were the SL numbers. Although on the TF&N forum, someone posted estimates that were high as well. I can only surmise with what a 9.72/41.5 step race would be during maximal and sustained speed regions.

Hope to come up soon with analysis for the 9.72 vs 9.85 but very busy at the moment.
Last in Osaka 200m final Bolt was timed in 5.69, matching the fastest ever 50m by Gay during the 19.62.

As for SL, Bolt does 41.5 steps, so did Gatlin, who was 10cm shorter as per body height.

I can’t imagine his 200m success helping his 100m. His pr of 19.75 is good but the speed reached during that race doesn’t come even remotely close to that achieved in a 9.7.

REALLY

That is interesting and I did not expect that!

Is there a complete split time analysis of Bolt’s WR?

I believe what is provided below represents that race to-date:

Thanks for the link.

IF and that is a big IF, a 6-4 man can be strong pound for pound and inch by inch as his competitors he should win. You watch, this may be a watershed for taller sprinters.
