Bolt 9.72 New 100m WR

This is crazy man.

And to think that I was at Icahn Stadium today for the last track meet of the season.

It was the Freshman/Sophomore Championships today. So I was there to support my teammates.

All the coaches were talking about was the new world record the entire time we were there. Which was from 6 AM to 4 PM.

It was crazy!!!

And then, there was a new 100m record set as well today in our race at 8.63, which was obviously some technical problem because the kid in reality ran an 11.2.

But me and my team can now brag we were there to see a new world record lol. 8.63!!

Keep in mind how in the past Bolt has competed against (and generally lost to) Spearmon in the 200. Bolt comes out in the first 100 like gangbusters, but seems to have SE and speed maintenance problems down the stretch, and Spearmon runs him down from behind. Bolt is now significantly faster in the flat 100, but it remains to be seen whether he can maintain that speed better than in the past. In fact, if Bolt has changed his distribution of workload to gain time in the 100 (presumably from the acceleration phase), he could end up making his 200 slower.

In Gay’s case, Bolt quite obviously won the race in the acceleration phase. Gay is going to have to put in more work in this area, just as he did considerable work in the start area getting ready for Asafa. But without knowing how Brauman’s training schedule is structured, you don’t know if things are actually planned this way intentionally (i.e. s-l with speed/accel at the end). See Victoria Cambell for comparison. I take it that Gay might want to do squats with more than 225 on his back, and maybe spend less time on overdistance for the 200…all of which may make both the 100 and the 200 more competitive in Beijing.

Charlie, what would you tell Gay if he came to you?

Yep, I have that acceleration problem too. But hill training/steps this summer should fix that. I get my best pick up in the last 30 meters where I feel like I am flying. But as a 13.0 sprinter, I guess that can be expected.

I would tell him to stick with Brauman and his plan and wait till he’s fully ready for the 100m (he was 10.05 last time before this and he’s already running 9.85 backing off in the last bit.
I don’t doubt he’ll go under 9.80 shortly.

That’s if Gay is still with Braumann…if not then what will he be thinking?

Why would he leave, he just ran 9.8 and its still early.

I’m glad this race happened as it’s great for the sport…no dodging!

A few things that comes to mind…

I’m pleased that Bolt ran through the tape. Something that his country man doesn’t do very often.

As we all know Gay will get better, but this has do wonders for Bolt’s confidence. Let’s hope his people (coach, agent etc) keep him healthy and bring him along properly.

I’m extremely curious to know (I may never truly know) what adjustments were made in his training. Based on his times as a youth something like this was extremely possible. However, it would be interesting to know what he’s done this year and last to prepare him for such performances. I look forward to seeing his splits in the last 40m as it appeared to be little decelerating.

Congrats Bolt…JAMROCK all the way.

This is the first 100 that bolt ran throught tape this season. The other 2 races he slowed down. I hope that they dont start making them dodge each other. Then we will have 3 different sprinters dodging each other.

If it is true then maybe he’ll go back to him then lol. He did say that he is looking forward into running a lot faster. I hope he does. Because that is what people want to see. People want to see competitive races and record times.

Can you give us some details? the results up to now will not reflect any change… but stay tuned!
first Asafa changes his weight work and tears a pec and the coach is unaware anything happened, Wariner switches coaches and looses his first 400 in forever, now this.
When money is at stake, interlopers come out from under rocks.
hopefully, you mean left Drummond and not Brauman.

The sprinting world has been flipped upside down. 12 months ago who would have predicted Bolt is 100m WR holder and Wariner loses to Merritt??

Some people who train in Arlington have said they’ve seen Tyson there a lot more often than not… with Doc Patton and company.

All Hookers come from Texas! Marshevet Hooker went to the University of Texas, and I believe she turned pro after her Junior year, similiar to Sanya Richards.
