Ben's training just before Seoul

Charlie (and anyone else who saw Ben train in the weeks leading up to Seoul),

If I’m not mistaken, Ben’s last race before his September 24th battle against Carl Lewis was in Cologne in late August. This seems to be an inordinate amount of time to stray from competition, even with injuries considered. In “Speed Trap” you outline his training briefly during those final weeks, but what did Ben do to stay sharp. For Rome, in 1987, his last race was in Zurich only 10 days before. I’d be curious to know how you modeled his lead-in to the Olympics.
Thanks

Well, Sprinterl, that’s a teriffic question. I sure as hell wish someone would answer it. All in due time, I guess.

I’m curious too. This was the fastest guy ever. How he and his coaching staff spent his final 10 days before 9.79 would be REALLY interesting.

FWIK its the taper schedule in the CFTS or speedtrap books.

The final taper and the training at that time is covered in considerable detail in Speed trap and the general and specific taper principles are in Both books!

Thanks,guys-will reference that.

I just got hold of a copy of Speed Trap, so I’ll check that out too.

Sorry guys,

I wasn’t as specific as I should have been. I’ve actually read Speed Trap a few times, and I never wanted Charlie to spill the beans on those final few days. I just find it strange that, even with the fascinating taper he describes in both books, Ben could go for so long before the Olympics without a competitive experience. If anybody can comment on this, I’d be interested to hear.
Thanks a lot.
