Basic Help question...

 Hi guys,

I’d like to start by saying that Charlie’s forums are absolutely undeniably the best. I been on so many forums of late and I don’t think I find myself returning to any of them when it appears all the quality people are here. Just an observation and acknowledgement to the many that make this possible.

Anyways, I have a general question:

I’ve been trying to compile as much knowledge to help out in the training of my 2 boys, aged 7 and 10, who play high-level Hockey in Mississauga. Now I know I’m not going to putting them through programs designed for adults, but need some guidance to develop at least dry-land training to help them continue to develop strength, speed and reaction time when not on the ice. Actually, it would probably be very tough and expensive to create an on-ice only training program. I see various programs for Power-skating, Dryland training, etc. and figured that I can help facilitate a viable “in-house” program. Any suggestions, programs, literature, manuals, etc., that anyone can point to would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Markus.

Hi Clemson,

thanks for the response. On a general basis they have at least one practise (approx. 45 minutes of actual ice-time performing shooting and skating drills) and 1 game/week (approx. 10-12 minutes of actual ice-time. There are many weeks where that will go up to 2 practices or 2 games/week or more if there is a tournament going on. Daily routines consist of nothing pre-planned, maybe Gym at school but is not rigorous whatsoever (at least according to them).
