I am looking to purchase a pair of spikes and I was wondering if anybody here who likes to run barefoot and likes shoes that resemble this as closely as possible has found a spike that they like and works well for them. Thanks.
yea i can honestly say that i love raceing barefoot, I swear if i could run barefoot you would see my time drop from 10.4 to 10.2. Well probably not but you would see it drop to 10.3 for real. But seeing as you cant grip for nuttin barefoot when eccelerating. Well to answer your question, you can buy the nike monster fly’s, i think their great. They are supportive yet very flexable, great for the 200m and they have just enough of rigidness for the 100m and down. But if you want to truely feel as if your barefoot wear the old micheal johnson’s, you know the ones that are like 4.6oz. They are usually black with a gold lace area, they have a zip up shroud or sumtimes their royal blue with a black lace area zip up shroud. Hope this could help.
The JSC can now only be bought in ultra-big sizes like 15. The Maxcat is the new version, also very light (but not quite as light as the JSC) and made for the same feel. One advantage of these is that they have very flexible plates (see Charlie’s posts about the dangers of hard plates) and are safer to train in. I find that the G5 with a more firm plate helps relaxation after 60-70m and gives a bit faster 100 time, but isn’t as safe from an injury standpoint to train in. The Maxcat might be the safest sprint spike there is for training from the injury standpoint.
Adidas also has an Adistar Sprint spike that is designed to fit like barefoot, but it isn’t as light as Nike’s and the plate is harder.
Thanks for the replies. I saw on eastbay the original maxcat only has large sizes thus, the second edition maxcat was what I had in mind.
Gotta agree with Austin H., if I could grip the track as well barefoot I’d definitely run that way all the time.
