Automatic Sprint Timer - US$165!!!

Haha, I will do almost anything to avoid buying things, as long as I can think of a way to improvise that will work the same…or almost the same :p.

Any further experience?
What is the weight of the thing?

Dont know - next to nothing, not more than one of the new little cellular phones.

BTW: I got used to it and it works for me 9 out of 10 times. I woud not do my 20, 30 or 40 accel runs without it any more. You get everything FAT-like.
Anybody telling me his self hand-timed 30m times makes me lough now - as I know I always timed myself 0.3 faster and when they try with my Sprint Star they get a big disappointment, too. Suddenly their 50m is not 6.1, but sg. like 6.5, 6.6 LOL.

You can play around with it, time every impossible distance, like your 1m, 5m.

I only miss a function to time flying runs.

Thank you for your update. I was planning on using one for timing accelerations too.

I noticed that there is now a FLASH-animation showing the proper use of the unit on the main page:

Has anyone else purchased and used the SprintStar? I ordered mine 2 weeks ago…still waiting on it.

Were you wearing it on the back of your belt, could that have made a difference?

I just want to know what is the hand timing that people here are talking about???
I tell my friend to stand on the finish line, and when he see my first movement (arms, legs)he start the stopwatch,
When I cross the line he stop.Is this a self-timed times as AUT-71 says???

I have used the sprintstar for about one season and it does give you a reality check as far as times are concerned. I find that you have to do a number of test runs to make sure that it will pick up your signal and stop the timer. It’s not as cumbersome or as big as it appear you can wear it on your hip or just below the chest like a heart rate monitor as long as the reciever is facing more toward the outside so that the signal is picked up by the finish line unit. As far as the distances are concerned it doesn’t matter how long the distance is because once the timer has started the only thing that matters is when you cross or signal the finishline unit and stop the timer. The other feature that I like is that it starts you off with random signals (between 1-3 secs.) so that you cannot anticipate (jump) the timer and it is a more accurate representation of your time since it starts before and not on your movement, more like a starter’s gun.

Mine is a litle bit diferent,
i took the stopwatch in my right hand,
i start the swatch then start to run,
when i cross the line i stop the swatch,
it´s not so acurate but i can measure myself.

So does it really work well?

I am thinking of getting one, sick of running with a stopwatch

No, you have to put it on your side that the signal can travel to the finish line unit when you reach it.
But I really got used to it - it never came off.

I don’t want to do my accel runs without Sprint Star any more. It’s simply stupid when people tell you they run 10m in 1.7 or 1.8 but in fact could NEVER run it below 2 secs electronic. I don’t want to be one of them again

“Self-Hand timing” up to 30m makes no sense at all - I’d call that kind of hand-timing no timing at all, so I really got to appreciate my sprint star…

man thanx for the link.

I’m saving up.

Looks like I have another investmant to make.

An alternative model http://www.onlinesports.com/pages/I,CEI-S701.html .

Cant open that one sportcount.com!

BTW they are all more expensive than the sprintstar

And none of them gives you electronic timing including reaction time.
Sportcount is a stopwatch you wear on your finger to make self-timing easier.

Power-systems gives you a time like I was told football 40yd tests work. (excluding reaction time).

Does anyone know other cheap alternatives to the sprint star? It’s a quite simple device.

So the sprintstar gives you the reactiontime??
Whats your pb 30m with it AUT??If you dont mind me askin…

Yes it does, because it beeps and you start (just like reacting to a gun in competition) and it terminates timing when you cross the finish line.
One little difference might be that the signal is closer to your body than the gun…

Nice feature is that the GO beep comes after a random interval following the SET beep, so you can’t guess when the GO will sound.

No problem - my current 100m level is only around 11.90-12.10 so my 10m “pb” is not better than 2.03 seconds.
When I time myself with hand i get nice times like 1.70, 1,75 without trying to cheat or something.

Trainers (more than one) used to tell me hand timing from first movement is usually 0.6 seconds less than Electronic timing, hand timing in competition 0.25-0.30. If I remember right Charlie writes in “The Speed Trap” even about 0.35 difference between hand and FAT timing incomp…

Thanks man, so there is a big diffrent…May be I should buy one.

I emailed em -

they said

We do, but we are not currently selling. We are testing and revising
the product again. Thanks for the interest, and check back in a few months.

Sincerely, Warren
