Automatic Sprint Timer - US$165!!!

Which reminds me! Martn76! Where’s my timer!? You have made some valid points about the sprint star. With it being placed on the floor can you really get an accurate time?? As we all know its the passing though the line of the torso that counts…but in saying that with the start device being attached to your waist this could be what stops the clock?? I want one of those big Clocks so I can see the time that I’ve run…I can see it now…(dreams about the clock stopping at 9.72)

From what I know these machines are very cheap to make provided you know the right people! Martn76 you could be a millionaire…only if you made the machines as quickly as you did your posts on here!

Over what distance, 80m?

The Sprint Star is almost what I was dreaming of.

It only lacks is the possibility of timing flying runs - which could be easily made - just a second “finish line unit” which would actually be a “starting line unit” and could trigger the timing additional to the usual start of timing.

No Neo  85m of course! :stuck_out_tongue:

There´s a Extra Large ( 38" to 43" ) Belt Trap that you could attached at top of your chest just above the nipples like we do with Belt Trap from Heart Rate Monitor…

All in good time my friend all in good time!

In case you haven’t noticed, there is a user manual located here:

Sorry I don’t understand…I was thinking about timing the 30 meters between 50 and 80 meter line for example.

Checked it out. It seems to be a good system relies on transmitting a signal continuosly during the run. It gives average speed readings and allows you to set distance to be covered. Very good. Worth the money if you look at other systems on the market which rely on infrared beam breaks, its a fraction of the cost. A good investment I reckon.

Keep on pushing him you may get a system that is worth 1000s if his ego is hurt.

The question is:
Will this equipment serve for distances like 200m, 300m and 400m without problems of signal ?

I think it is powerful enough. You can select a distance up to 400m.

Did anyone else but the sprint star? Does anyone know about how big it is? I’m pondering buying this device.

How are you supposed to run full speed with something like that strapped to you? What sort of sensor does it use? What if your hand is covering the thing as you cross the finish line? I don’t think it would work out with really fast sprinters unless it is really tiny. Still, I somehow don’t think it would work properly. Anyone with a testimonial?

Clemson,

Ya I use a digital camera and it gives very accurate timing once you figure where to position the camera. It is a bit tough with calculating when the starting gun goes off cause there isn’t sound in slow motion.

Anyone tried this yet ? Bit naff it doesn’t have increments of 10 / 20 / 30m as well.

Ok, I received mine and went to the track with it Saturday.

Negative: You HAVE to cross the finish line like Ben in Seoul and wear a tight shirt - cause if your hand or your clothes or something comes between the unit you wear and the finish line unit, timing is not terminated… :frowning:

So I tried to dive across the line with my hand up (surely looked like an idiot - I’m glad I was alone on the track), but every other time the timer still did not stop. No idea why???

First it’s funny to have that thing stuck to the belt - you hear that little crick-crack sound every time your foot hits the ground and expect the box to come off any moment - but it did not happen and you’ll et used to it.

Forget about the distances - it works up to 99secs. I do not need the average speed of my 30m acceleration and I can remember all my runs (so I don’t need a PB displayed for a certain distance). I always set it to 0m and just timed…

Positive: for the runs that worked it was great to get some FAT-like times in training, although it’s disappointing to see 0.2-0.3 added to all your self-timed hand-times.

the last 2 posts say it all. It just doesnt seem worth it.

AUT_71, tks for the report,
i´ll ask you to keep us informed about how is going your trains with this equipment, maybe you discover a new way to register the times correct.
Ah, don´t worry about 0.2 or 0.3 added because at least now you know how fast you can run.

Yea, it seems better to me to just video yourself, that way you have a video of your sprint and you have an accurate time. You don’t pay anything as long as you have something to do it with already. I just videoed myself for the first time today and besides it being hard to tell where you crossed the finish, it seems just as good as something like the SprintStar, plus you can see technique and stuff.

I was also thinking, if you video yourself when you’re not going out of the blocks, you can get an electronic time by throwing a rock(or something else) straight into the air, a little behind you, and then starting when it comes down. As long as the rock is in the video, you have an automatic start. If you have someone to video you, then you can do it out of the blocks because they will throw it.

Maybe a strange idea, but I can be creative when it comes to doing things without buying anything.

Wow that was a good one… a rock. Here I thought I was ghetto getting two pieces 2x4 wood with a hinge at the ends and making one of those things that the directors use to say action (i forget the name) But Brother you got me beat…
