Colin,
Which Ironmind training hall tape would you recommend?
It’s interesting that Ato thinks that these help his mid race.
I’ve found that they mainly help initial acceleration… of which his has been great this year.
Well Jon Drummond thinks his traps are delts…
Get the Ironmind catalogue sent to you, its free and the glossy booklet goes into more detail about each tape than what their website describes.
The Melbourne one has Dimas in action , which you may like
He’s also on another tape. But these are all mostly tuneup workouts days before a meet, so don’t quite show their training mid cycle.
The only one that does is my current Fav - the 2001 Polish Training Champions tape. Which I posted a preview last week if you remeber. You get to see a series of workouts, which do show them working the assistant lifts and so on. Some people say it’s slow, that’s becuase you see almost the whole session etc. But its full of subtle info - I learn a lot watching this tape. Its about a month from the Worlds.
For big explosive lifts, the Bulgarian training Hall tape is a good too. Its the opposite of the above tape, they scream a lot, the Polish guys are quiet
And it’s mostly huge singles in the lifts and front squats. But that is how they train anyway.
I believe Christian has all the tapes.
discussion on the tapes
the 95 2 tape set - apparently has a section showing some Chinese lifters
quote "the 95 tape has a segment that shows some mid level lifters training. shows 12 year old kid or something doing clean style dl, pbn, and it also mentions his training lifts. neat stuff, kinda scary when you consider that this was 95 and that this kid he was still training would be somewhat of a beast.
later.and the 93 tape. I wanna see Dimas in action
these any good?Mike Wittmer Posted: Sep 1 2003, 09:20 AM
I’ve got the 2001 Creating Champions tape, the 98 Bulgarian tape, the 2001 Worlds tape, 99 Worlds and 99 Europeons. The 2001 Worlds tape is pretty amazing, Jaber (QAT) snatches 200 with easy, also a look at the training of some of the top Iranian lifters. Its a pretty cool tape. I haven’t seen either 95 tape, but I’ve heard they’re good, but I know the 2001 tape is good. My favorite is the 98 Bulgarian tape, but the 2001 Worlds tape is a close second. Its pretty interesting, just a few days before the World Championships Huster (GER) is cleaning and jerking seperately, something I’ve never even heard of other lifters doing.
more stuff
I have all of them and they are well worth the money. Most of them are pre world or European championships and not mid cycle type of training. It is interesting how the top lifters prepare during the last few days prior to major competitions.
The 95 set - Two tapes, a lot of Botev on each. Some Niam, Leonidis, Kaki, Weller, Huster, Khrapaty, Nerlinger, Yotov, Chakarov.
At the end of the second tape, Strossen has come across some juniors. They were doing a lot of heavy pulls and clean dead lifts. There are a couple of 14 y/o 54 kg. lifters. One C&Jd 110 a couple times. The other was doing power clean and jerks (1+3) with 90. The pulls were with 125 and the clean deads went to 150. There are also some 16/17 y/o on there, one doing a clean dead with 195. It is hard to tell what is on the bar sometimes and he doesn’t know these guys, but he tries to find out ages, bdwts. and best lifts. Good stuff.
Botev was just crazy. One workout, he snatched 190, missed 200, then missed 195 twice, made 180, made 190, then missed 195 twice, barely made it, then missed 200. He also C&Jd 240 and cleaned 250. A lot of squatting is shown as well. I think 320/325.
had to break up my reply - board won’t let me post

I’ve got all the traiing videos too. '98 Bulgaria is my favorite, the '95 a close second. The '96 Olympic training hall is pretty exciting, Naim attempts to snatch a world record weight 4 times and finishes his workout with 210 FS, and Pablo Lara power cleans and jerks 190.
ive got both of the worlds training hall 95’-
the stuff on the juniors is pretty cool, lots of heavy pulls.
Botev stuff worth the price of the tape alone- the 250 clean is just awesome (it also warrented the cover of MILO magazine shortly after)
training hall before atlanta 96’
this is a cool training tape too- alot of different lifters.
persoanl favorite stuff on this tape are Naim and Pablo Lara of cuba.
he smokes power cleans and hang cleans so quickly! when i watch him lift , i am entertained! also on this tape it catches the tail end of training hall stuff from that years worlds in norway. alot of greek team, but most of the Dimas stuff is from the side…
hope this helped
basicly their all good
I wish I had all of them on DVD. Tapes wear and tear
BTW I didn’t know there was a 1996 tape, I don’t see it in the IronMind catalogue. I see 97 and 95, which are 2 tapes sets. I see no 1996 tape
Ok I just found why the 1996 tape is missing. Seems the USOC wanted a piece of the action. That’s also why there is no 2000 Olympics.
so they dont carry the olympic training hall tapes anymore, that sucks!
glad i picked it up when i got the chance-im gonna go watch it again…
