Oh ok good cause when I tried it feels like I can get more power, out of the blocks.
yes your stride count is correct
I counted the knees, rising and blocking 39 times, for 39 strides(based on the way I count strides). I figured it was just a case of the slower 100m run(if infact it was) being run with longer strides, maybe because of the flats and an area in the run(30?-100?) of being a float section.
So is he definitely fully recovered from the injury he got in japan?
Yeah, what’s up with that? He does actually have an anterior pelvic tilt dosen’t he? I’ve been told that’s bad, but how could that be the case if AP has it? Do you need to focus more time on strengthening the hammy’s?
i would assume that helps answer the puzzle of his groin injuries. I suffered 2 groin injuries, and i have a good anterior pelvic tilt. Now this should raise some questions.
Maybe he’s just got the big power-pack at the back. When you see a world-class power monster the glutes can be disproportionally big so as to make judgement of anterior tilt a bit difficult. Better for a chiropractor to make the call.
I was talking about this picture:
It just seems his hips are tilted anteriorly in this picture, and some of the others. You can’t even see the glutes in this pic. Are there any chiropractors here? Can you diagnose from a pic or would you need to investiagte in person? This is more of a hopeful topic anyways.
I’m mean at top speed.
Sorry wrong quote…
Maybe a dumb question… but what do you mean with his heal going back?
If you watch the footage you’ll see that upon leaving the blocks, his heel goes backwards of the face of the block pad…possibly due to the size of the blocks compared to his feet or just the fact that his feet aren’t flush on the block pad (they are placed quite high).
exactly.
Those blocks are the same height as the ones we use for races and to overcaome this I have always been told to have part of the front of the foot on the track and get a good stretch of the achilles / calf by moving the back knee backwards. I am assuming (maybe incorrectly) Asafa is used to a longer foot section where this wouldn’t be an issue and stuck to what he normally does.
His feet are very high on the blocks
That is not his normal foot position in the blocks. Look at videos from his races, not single frames from a training session in flats?
Yea I noticed that from races also, maybe he was trying something new, who knows.
My guess is that’s an exercise in order to shorten swing time of the back leg, also other video in Miami, you see that Asafa has his front leg on the block not doing a cycle on his first step. i mean his toe stays on the ground. I speculate that it’s an emphasis at training because sometimes in competition, Asafa’s front foot toe touches the ground before the first step, because of a too flat swing. It clearly happened in Stuttgart WAF 9.83.
Also having the back foot higher brings the COM further forward so less force is needed for forward movement, this is similar to fall starts.
As Charlie referred to earlier if Asafa really pushed off with peak power then he would end up flat on his face. So adjusting the back foot may allow him to get out of blocks in flats without using too much force & risk a fall.
Yes i saw that too. But i thought you guys were talking about heel recovery, that’s why i didn’t knew for sure what you were talking about…
About this footplacement… My coach made me sit like that in my blocks also… It wasn’t a nice feeling but i was faster out of the blocks, but it felt much slower… I only tried it once before going to the EU>23, but he told me that in the future i had to place my foot up the blocks like that…
With my old coach i was used to take off with my whole foot, and my toes where touching the ground… I did that for like 5 years and now i’m trying to switch the height of the placement… I still have to do my first block session, but seeing this vid/picture maybe will help me
Asafa is 6 ft 3 in tall, what weight is he in the pix? around 190lb?
This was a single frame and he may have not even been set-up correctly.
Besides that, I thought you were not allowed to have your feet off of the blocks like that.
