Martial Mbandjock (Right) wins Brum 60m from Ronald Pognon

DAMN! Angela looks to be in incredible fitness this year. I saw her last year and she looked alright. But now she looks great. Hopefully she can reach her potential!

yes she does look like a beast.

she looks like shawn crawford but with bigger calves, lol

Yea I saw her a few times last year in florida. She was getting blown up alot. I saw her run like a 25.17 in the 200 at miami last year. I can tell she was embarrased. She went and hid in the corner. lol. Byt even in loosing I would still give it to her!

& CONTRAST

Nice shot kk.

re - shirvo - massive dorso flexion
looks like in that shot he is trying to Power Clean his way to the finnish line :stuck_out_tongue: - still, he is looking in the best shape i have seen him in for yrs now.

People could / should learn a lot from how Relaxed Asafa is in that race - it would be good to see that relaxation in an elite whilst coming 3rd, instead of always seeing it in the 1st place getter.

shirvo looks like he was “Photoshopped” in there

Yeah I thought so too, but I’ve seen some other wide-angle pix of the race and Shirvo was in that sort of posture

Melbourne GP08

In most of the pics/videos of Fasuba running that I have seen, his hands make a fist, these 2 are the only ones where his hands are open. Does that affect his running?

Good observation “sizerp”. That would be for he or his coach, PJ, a member of this forum, to discuss and hopefully PJ will when he gets time and if he views this thread.

But, yes, the hands can make a significant impact. Tension in the hands - such as might come through clenching as a fist - will be passed along the arm into the shoulders. Once there is tension in the shoulders, they maycease to move (horizontally, slightly) around the vertical axis (spine) and when/if that occurs the hips will also stop rotating and at this point you lose virtually disengage the big engine. Everything is connected, everything is a chain of movement.

As to why Olu changed from closed hand to open, again, we have to ask them. But the hands can also affect the timing of the entire arm movement cycle. Open hands give a fractionally longer lever. Once the athlete is in full upright position, sometimes a coach or athlete may feel the hands need to be elevated a bit higher (no higher than the eyes) to work a bit more for “lift” and opening the hands can be a device some coaches may opt to use.

Then again, it may all be entirely impromptu, entirely unplanned and intuitive. Come on PJ, enquiring minds need to know

I also noticed that asafa powell usually runs with closed hands, but in his 9.77 race in Zurich, his hands were open. Also, his hands were open in his races following the osaka final.
