That’s the way things were back then. Many sprint coaches believed lifting weights made you slower…but they also believed in running cross country to “get strong” I’ll bet the real reason he ran as fast as he did was the strength that came from football.

When are these games (time of year)? I would have thought it would be the same time as it was in Manchester 2002 (British Summer time)?
