A bit confused about these two. I know Abadzhiev was the Bulgarian coach from about 69 until after Seoul (i think). But Spassov says he was the coach there at the same time (see http://www.overspeedtraining.com/spassov.html). So whats the deal? What am i missing here? Did they coach together?
That link doesn’t work.
thanks jug
As an Olympic Weightlifting coach I might have some input on this question.
Indeed Abadziev did coach for a long time, a very long time. Now he was a lot better than Spassoov on the development of weightlifting athletes and methods of getting them to a maximum level of strength and also power in the sport of weightlifting. Developing training aspects that were foriegn to most countries in this sport. They were all tried, tested and worked over periods of years.
Now Spassov was the acedemic behind a lot of various sports, including weightlifting.
Abadzhiev turned to the academia people of the sporting world and in there face," said prove me wrong’’. They tried and coudn’t.
Spassov may have coached at some time, but Abadziev could apply it better.
