Good work. Probably you are just giving your CNS a rest here. I think more athletes are discovering that the pendulum swung too far with weight training. Now it is swinging back.
Maximal strength and 100% speed work might compete for the same CNS-resources. However, if your event is further on the left on the speed-endurance continuum, and where special endurance play a minimal role, maximum strength is rather useful for overall versatility of high intensity components. Therefore, jumpers and throwers will benefit from maximal strength training (as Sharmer’s 3.30 vs. 3.50 in the SLJ entails, albeit other factors may also explain the difference).
