This is only his third year sprinting. Can he take down Bolt’s record(s)? I wouldn’t be surprised.
He could get close, but only if he gets that right arm under control which throws him off balance every step he takes.
BTW Tony Sharpe was instrumental in guiding this kid into track: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/grasse-661654-sharpe-life.html
when I watch him run, i flinch cause i think its about to break
Wow, I really enjoyed watching that video. She’s just coming from behind like Donovan, lol.
Caryl Gilbert at usc is a great coach. Her lecture at the coaching convention was excellent.
She’s very good-a protege’ of Tony Wells who was definitely on the strength/power end of sprint training.
sounds familiar
He’s a very lethal tremendous human animal sprinter…its like a hybrid of gatlin, mullings, n gay all in 1 lol
Anyone know if he possesses a neurological or structural issue related to only his right arm fully extending during the backswing?
I don’t know, but my 8 year-old son does the same thing. I have been trying to help him fix this for 2 years, but to no avail. He is left-handed, but not sure if that has something to do with it. Maybe I shouldn’t worry about it until he runs 9.75.
On physical maturity alone that guy should get faster. Not sure i’d mess with it too much. I don’t think it’s that bad though, it’s not as un-symmetrical to the point of disaster.
Here’s a podcast with coach Caryl Smith Gilbert from last year: http://sportscoachradio.com/usc-head-track-field-coach-caryl-smith-gilbert-principle-driven-leadership/
As mentioned before in this thread as a coach she was a protege of Tony Wells, as an athlete also worked under Kersee and Seagrave.
lol i just remember in the symposium in phoenix in dec, she said “IF wont run the speed i want, I’m gonna MAKE you run it if I have to pull you, or use wind, or whatever”
His coach is coming to an AC conference being held in July here in Toronto, and I know De Grasse’s chiropractor well- I’ll find out!
It works for him… Why change it?
I wonder why such a young healthy guy would need a chiro? Hope the chiro doesn’t try to give him any unnecessary manipulations. I know of a few guys who went to chiros for hamstring injuries (unrelated to a back problem) and got their backs manipulated and now have permanently loose spinal ligaments and many more problems than just bad hamstrings! So many quacks in chiropractic!
On another note, I noticed that De Grasse walks with his feet turned way out. I wonder why? Maybe ask his chiro why.
I’ve noticed it too.
Tight and shortened gluteus?
