what is wrong with Tyson biomechanically?
Yeah, the wind on Jeter’s 10.76 was +3.2, so what happened to her was the same thing that happened to Tyson in 2008. To continue with what I said above, she was so messed up after the original injury that she had to take a whole year off to let her body heal. She was just getting back (11.21 in May, then ~11.0 before nationals). Too much too soon, but she was in a semi with Bowie (10.72w) and had to go fast to qualify.
Regarding that track, USA Track and Field is essentially paid off by Nike, which is also embroiled in a certain scandal on both sides of the pond right now which cannot be discussed under forum rules that I’m sure you know about. Other facilities like the Drake Relay site have openly stated that they feel disenfranchised in not having a fair chance to bid for championships, and some companies that might want to be involved as sponsors have stated openly that they are not comfortable with the level of control that Nike has. The same thing applies to the NCAA championships in the USA for the same reason, and many of the top NCAA track coaches are also complaining about the situation. There are other facilities with the same track surface as London 2012 (UCLA, Sacramento, Jacksonville Florida) but don’t really have any chance to bid for championships. And that’s why Gay and Jeter, among others, have had their careers messed up.
My meet was at the track in jville this passed weekend. The florida highschool state champs is there every year. Huge stadium with more than enough room to hold all fans.
Nike is a terrorist group. THey have the “operation beat bolt” thing going on now, which is why they signed jgat and tyson…(even though I think jgat deserves it…Tyson is a snitch and destroyed jons career. )
I would love to see the champ meet moved elsewhere, gives other fans in other parts of the country to go to the meet live…everyone doesnt live in nike town aka oregon. USATF is a joke
ive been saying this to friends for quite a while regarding nike vs puma and its all down to politics and most importantly $$$$$$$. in regards to Tyson- hes still got to survive himself and im afraid to say that its dog eats dog out there
I can agree, but when you take food out of another mans kids mouth, it will come back to bite you. Hopefully Jon has more skills than just coaching
Chris, I agree but jon had his day on the track and Tyson wants to pave his own path for what time hes left to compete. I don’t know the exact ins and outs but looks nasty and as you said “it will come back to bite you” but nike don’t give a toss
He can sing :).
My understanding is that Tyson is actually worth quite a bit of green, so I don’t think survival is the issue, but he couldn’t stay with Lance Brauman because Lance is an Adidas coach. He had to go some place to have an elite level coach. And in order to train with John Smith, Tyson had to be associated with Nike in some fashion and he had to run in a Nike kit. I don’t believe he has the same kind of sponsorship agreement that Gatlin has.
Right now, I believe Tyson is the answer to the trivia question, “Who is the greatest track athlete never to win {and keep} an Olympic medal?” I hope he gets a chance to change that next year.
PS: I train and race in the Adidas SP Prime originally designed for Tyson. I certainly would not want to trade that for the Nike crap unless I had to. I’ve been to indoor races where EVERY unattached sprinter is using the exact same spike I am.
Aren’t they only good for like two races?? That’s the word on the street lol
No, that’s not true–IF you are careful with them. The comments you see at Eastbay are probably from high school kids who are hard on everything. If you are careful, meaning untying them each time so the laces are loose and so you don’t force your foot into them, I find that they will last almost 1 season. And I train 1000-1500 meters HI per week in 3-4 workouts as well as racing in them. They ARE very light, the plate IS very stiff, they are the most comfortable spikes I have ever had, and you will be convinced very quickly if you test them against any other spike using Freelap. But if you realize that it’s going to cost you $200 to replace them if you do something stupid and you take care of them, they will last longer than people say. I’ve been using them for 2 full seasons, and I just bought my 3rd pair on sale.
Really, what they are is cocaine for sprinters. If wear them for about 2 workouts to test them out, you won’t ever want to wear anything else. VERY addicting.
Yeah to me their specs have seemed the most legit since they came out, and certainly better than those heavy Nike metal plates. If I was going to spring the money for them, I would want to get my use out of them for at least a full season, as you say they are good for. I’m pretty good at taking care of my stuff, so long as my toe doesn’t drag much on my starts! I was thinking maybe using them in 1-2 out of possibly 3 HI workouts per week also to help preserve them.
Haha that sounds great though, kinda like the blue stuff on Breaking Bad, eh?
Oh and also, how would you say they run, size-wise? I wish I had a store nearby that has them
I’ve had my fair share of sprint spikes in my 15 years of competing and i’ve spent some silly money in the hope of dropping some serious 10ths…I was one of the first to buy those SP’s just after the 2012 London Olys…i spent £250 of my hard earned cash in attempt to run something crazy like Tyson or Yohan. I even succumb to the hype by not only buying 2 pairs of the yellow ones but even the light blue ones before I bowed out of track and field. My Primes lasted me an average of 8 races. I never used them for warm ups or training. They felt great yes…but HEAVILY overpriced. The upper is way too feeble and flimsy and can tear at the drop of a hat if a clumsy competitor walks past and catches them with the pins of their spikes. They won’t salvage your season if you’re out of shape or on a dud programme or getting little to none massage therapy.
I never spend over 85 for a spike. I like puma spikes so I usually wait and get last seasons spike at a great discount, sometimes puma will sell em for 75% off.
Also a website called 6pm sells all spikes at great discounts
I just got my 3rd pair of these for about $130 after two discounts at Eastbay, which is about 40% off full retail. And that’s the first thing to know–be careful how much you pay and wait for discounts after the season is over. Are they faster? Absolutely, and if they sold them for less than $100, everybody would want one. But as I said in my post some distance above, the performance comes at a price: They are VERY light, the plate is VERY stiff, and you have to be careful with these. If you carefully unlace and lace the shoes each time and never force anything, they will last about 1 season (and for me, that’s 2 workouts a week plus races). But if you’re hard on equipment as JasonUK seems to be, these are not for you. I actually have a pair of accelerators that are supposedly my training spike (really, I only wear them for 150s, which is about 1 workout a week) and I think that’s the way Adidas intends for the Prime SPs too be used, but the things are just too damn comfortable to wear.
Jimmy Vicaut (in lane 5 in black), caught in the act of being outside his lane and blocking Tyson Gay from making the pass that Dr. Ralph Mann feels should have been made.
did you read the french coaches reply. He said The USA drops the stick so much they run like a highschool team. IMO Jimmy had nothing to do with THe USA getting dq’d
