From what I can see, Gay was running close to the outside lane from start to finish, he didn’t move there to avoid Vicaut. I’m also quite confident that Bolt would have caught Rogers even with a clean exchange. Nevertheless, a silver would surely have been better than a DQ.
other angles and still shots provided by PJ show that vicaut wasn’t protruding into the lane, and gay was running wide from the start…
Where are such shots? They are not on his twiter/facebook, maybe because he withdrew them after the evidence Dr. Ralph Mann posted?
I don’t want to post the image Dr. Mann posted on Facebook to keep Angie out of any possible copyright issue with Speedendurance.com, but Dr. Mann’s image is on that site, and it is VERY clear that Vicaut’s foot is one the line and that his posterior is on the other side. Mike Rodgers is left-handed, so Gay would not want to be on the outside all the way, but Vicaut was inside his lane as the photo shows. Ralph Mann is a very careful scientist. and he has it right as usual. What he’s saying about the lead the US had due to Jamaican exchanges is exactly what I said earlier in this thread, but I didn’t know about the DQ situation as the cause.
This is the second time in 3 world championships that USA has bee victimized by illegal tactics by the Europeans. This is the 4X100 in 2011, with Aikines-Aryeetey of GBR literally running INTO Doc Patton and knocking him over:

If it happens again, drop the gloves.

copy right issues? as much as charlies name has been dropped on his site, im sure he will not be sending out a legal team.
also, if its posted on fb, then fb owns it.
this is an interesting angle. you can see that his foot is not on the line.
gay at the start of his leg. it has been pointed out by someone else that he did the same thing in the semi.
at the point that gay passed him.
camera angles can sometimes present a slightly different picture from what actually happened.
I’m pretty sure that gay didn’t change direction because of vicaut. he would have had to have made that decision much earlier than in this picture to have run so wide, and at that point he wouldn’t have been able to perceive whether or not he was in his lane.
I’m far from convinced that the positioning of the french runner had any influence at all on the USA runner.
as for the video from the earlier relay, from what I can see the USA runner was running tight on the inside line and leaning in. the brittish runner took off at the moment he passed and rose up into him. seeing as the USA runner approached him from behind I find it hard to see how it could have been anyone’s fault than his own…
this is just before impact in the other relay. you can see the USA foot right near the lane on his left and he’s leaning into the turn. the brittish sprinter is close to the outside lane on his right, but not over. as he stood up he clipped him with his shoulder and that was enough to throw him off balance. the impact didn’t appear to be particularly high. the brit certainly wasn’t greatly affected…
for anyone still interested in this issue, this was taken from footage of the semi final. you can see that gay is almost standing on the outside line and there is no hint of the inside runner protruding into his lane at all. to achieve the handoff he cut in sharply in the last two steps. they got away with it because there was no pressure. gay had slowed dramatically and rodgers slowed his acceleration.
running wide in the lane was gay’s choice, and it had nothing to do with anything/anyone else…
Asafa is sure running a lot of races this season, it is good to see .
Regardless of whether Asafa is in top form or not, his running mechanics are pure beauty to watch.
