ZMA & Testosteron

Watching the news at the TV concerning two athletes (cycler & sprinter) having problems (Everybody know what I’m meaning I geuss) I’m wondering if I could have some problems using ZMA.

It is known that ZMA increases testosteron levels. Could I get some problems using them ?

(I hope everybody understands what I’m meaning and I hope I didn’t break any forum rules)

No, that is very unlikely using just ZMA.

ZMA is zinc, magesium, and B-6 bro! Testosterone will not raise from Flintstone vitamins mofo.

? I was under the distinct impression that using ZMA could increase testosterone levels by upto 50%.

Any thoughts?

I was under the impression that ZMA assists in the repair if HGH, while in deep sleep.

What i severyones opinion of using ZMA - if you have trouble sleeping? Think it can be a sleep aid?

Well Zinc can increase Test levels more than that if you are Zinc deficient. However, I can’t see a case where zinc would put you “over the top”.

Magnesium helps you sleep.

I still don’t see any benefit of ZMA over just zinc tabs and magnesium tabs.

Anyway, recently on T-nation there was a study referenced that said 3mg/kg day of zinc significantly increasted test levels. For a 200lb athlete that is like 270mg of zinc where ZMA has 30mg. Why can’t you just get a bottle of zinc tabs and take like 200mg/day then take magnesium at bedtime?

I guess ZMA is more convenient since it’s a product that has zinc & mag combined. I look at it like “do you want to buy OsteoBiFlex or just get some MSM and glucosamine tabs”

I thought 50g or more of zinc was toxic?

.27g=.54% of 50g

I am pretty sure that Robb just forgot the m in mg, as 50g of zinc would definately be toxic.

Doses around the 200mg area could possibly be toxic and have adverse affects on the body especially if used for a prolonged period of time, I have seen references that even 75mg can have toxic effects though I think that is a very conserative measure. 200mg may be alright but I wouldnt push it too much further past that.

Here is a decent link to the toxic effects of zinc if interested:
Toxicity Summary for Zinc and Zinc Compounds

If you read through the comments on the t-mag article, you’ll find the study used a different form of zinc than you will find in most supplements. People figured 40-60mg (of the zinc you find in most zinc supps and ZMA supps) to be the equivalent to what was used in the study.

About ZMA failing a drug test–it increases testosterone through a natural feedback system (where zinc is used in test. production), so you really can’t fail a test here.

yes, ZMA can slightly help increase natural test levels. not much, might not even notice. ill pull up some research and post it when i get it. with the Combo of ZMA and tribulus terrestris you can effectively increase your natural test levels. now if you have a naturally high test level already, yes you can fail a test. but like most people no you wont.

Who sponsors the study? Company selling trib? Tribulus is garbage. Look at what people say their “results” are and decide for yourself. And no, you cannot fail a test since zinc doesn’t raise levels to super-physiological levels. In fact, if zinc helps raise your levels it would only mean you were deficient before.

Studies performed in Bulgaria are the primary source of most current health claims regarding tribulus. According to this research, tribulus increases levels of various hormones in the steroid family, including testosterone, DHEA and estrogen, and for this reason improves sports performance, fertility in in men and women, sexual function (again in men and women), and symptoms of menopause (such as hot flashes) 7-11

Tribulus terrestris has long been used as a tonic and aphrodisiac in Indian ayurveda practice, where it is known by its Sanskrit name, “gokshura”.[3]

It is now being promoted as a testosterone booster for the purpose of building muscle and increasing sex drive. Independent studies [4] have suggested that Tribulus terrestris extract does increase testosterone levels, though leaving them in the normal range, which is not thought to increase muscle development.

Some have compared the tonic properties of Tribulus terrestris to the effects of ginseng, but these occur due to entirely different mechanisms. Claims have been made that it enhances testosterone levels by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) levels.[5] LH is responsible for “telling” the body to produce testosterone. One interesting fact is that extended use of anabolic steroids reduces levels of LH, thus reducing and sometimes shutting down the body’s production of testosterone.[6]

It is also claimed that Tribulus terrestris increases testosterone by increasing gonadotropin-releasing hormone[7] (GnRH) which in turn stimulates the production of LH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Testosterone, besides its role in muscle-building and raising fertility and libido, is also known to have a positive effect on bone marrow activity (for red blood cell production) and the immune system

u have some good points, i have spoken to people who loved it and some who hated it.

i have used it for years and i love it. so have some of my athletes. i can tell a major difference when im on than off. you have to take more than what they normally recomend to get good results. i take at least 2grams per day. most only take 500-600mg a day and dont get good results.

hey did you play for UT or a fan?

Neither Of Those Worked

Both work fine for me… maybe try again? The first looks over a few studies on trib (essentially saying there are no results) and the second showed that trib performed worse than placebo and showed no positive benefits.

but hes telling you he had pretty solid gains while taking it.
