I’m new to the forum. I’ve been learning a lot from all your knowledge. I hope to continue learning from all of you.
I’m interested to know about “wind aided times.”
How many mph does the wind have to be for a time to be considered “wind aided?”
How much will the wind affect the results?
(ex, 10 mph wind would affect the time by +/- 0.05 seconds)
Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
wind aided is above 2.0m/s wind. That’s about 4.5mph.
A 4.5mph wind will generally give you a 100m time that is .1 faster than a race with 0 wind. A headwind will be more detrimental that a tailwind is helpful. For example a 4.5mph headwind will make your race more than .1 slower (maybe .12).
There is a study on this…I have it packed away somewhere but maybe someone else has it on hand?

thanks for the reply! your response really shed some light.
If you want a calculation tool here is a website

it will shed light on your questions

That calculators awesome, thanks for posting that. I always used to say that for every 0.2 m/s of wind it’s 0.01 seconds of time but that was just kind of a guess.
