Leonard Scott ‘the piano man’ after 60m, thoughts on why he cant finish races?? CF, would love to get ur insight.
Is he expending too much too soon?
Not enough over distance?
Too heavy?
Poor Technique?
Cheers

He has jon drummond disease. He went under 10 last season so I dont know what it could be. Might be mental
Is he expending too much too soon? Possible
Not enough over distance? NO, this could be the problem.
Too heavy? Possible
Poor Technique? Possible
Its hard to say.
If he is doing the same sort of workouts Mo and Ato did, he is doing plenty of overdistance. He is a pretty hefty guy and did run 9.9 low last year. I imagine if his finish was better he would be a contender for worlds, but for now he’ll have to worry about keeping his 2nd spot in the US. He seems a little tight too, especially when he runs, which seems to cause most problems at max v and after.
thinking about it i dont think his weight is a problem look at some of the past/present sprinters.
What guys are/were bigger than him and ran much faster? It’s probably not the only factor, but it could be one.
usa track and field has him listed at 178lb i know when he played football at ut he wasnt much bigger, i thought dix was around 200lbs and linford was around 200lbs just to name two.
He’s not drinking his NUTRILITE™
I don’t see how any of the discussed issues could be a problem unless he left HSI.
I heard he took brainquicken before running that 9.9 last year, what you think CF?
If you look carefully at last year’s results, you’ll see that Scott won 60 indoors, but it took a long time for his 100 to “come around.” By the end of summer, he was giving Asafa some tight races, but I don’t think he got under 10 until August. He does seem to have problems with SE (JS had him run some 200’s last year to build endurance for the 100). His time at the Reebok race in NYC was just slightly slower than last year, and given the timing of the WC in Osaka, HSI may be doing a longer, slower buildup.
It seems to me that what he really needs to work on is relaxation after he comes up, but I’m guessing that he’ll be there when it counts. However, he has to make the US team, and he’s going to have Gay, and probably Dix and Trindon Holiday to contend with, with only 3 spots in the open 100.
not sure about holiday since fb season is starting up.
Holiday IS entered in the USATF 100, as are some other guys that could give Scott trouble if he’s not closer to top form than he showed in Carson and NYC: Shawn Crawford, Marcus Brunson, Mark Jelks…
I wanna see Mo Greene vs Leonard Scott now. I think there’s gonna be about 10 guys that give Scott problems.
i think relaxation is definitely a problem. look at his face when hes sprinting and compare it to asafa’s.
Yes. His shoulders come up late in the race, probably as a result of pushing his stride too much in the early stages, making it difficult to make the transition to good top speed mechanics. Prob last year, John had a chance to concentrate on him and his form late in the season.
Yes that is a tough issue for a lot of sprinters it seems. If your form is off, it’s often seems easier to get a good start by pushing or trying harder. But then your good start is negated and then some later on in the race as you said.
As we were saying…
JS teaches (at least what I saw) that after the 15-20m drive out of the blocks, you are supposed to begin to bring the knees up and you gradually come up over the next 20-25 meters (before bringing your head up). It seems that Scott has all this (though knee lift might be on the low side).
It just seems that the guy has all the relaxation ability of an executioner.
Maybe he’s just trying too hard?
Eh… isn’t that his PR race? So if he can’t relax and he runs 9.91 then how is relaxation the problem that is putting him in the 10.2 range now?
ther eis no way he canbe under 190 lbs…usatf datas… are not that updated ( see aso crawford…)
How much faster might he go if he learned to “relax and let the speed come out?” I still think, though, that JS is going to have him ready when he needs to be.
