which of these is hardest on the cns?

i don’t know if anyone can really answer this but:

Which of these sessions would be the toughest on the CNS:

explosive medball:
10x overhead backwards toss
10x squat throw
10x single hop and throw +sprint to ball
10x double hop and throw +sprint to ball
10x triple hop and throw +sprint to ball
10x medball accels (the roll back, then forward, toss, pushup position, and sprint one)
5-10x medbal accel (the throw, pushup postion, then sprint to ball one)

all done on grass with a 12 lbs ball, rests between reps are walk-backs to start and rest between sets are 2-5 mins.

or Sprint session: at 400m total volume, with 1min rest/10metres sprinted

or a Heavy weights session:
primary lift (ie squat or deads) done at 4x3, or 3x4-5 at 95-100% of 3,4 or 5 RM
assistance unilateral work (3x6-8)
RDLs 3x6
upper body push 3x5 (95-100 of 5 RM)
pullups 3x5
abs

thanks

I think max sprints are toughest on the cns.

then it goes

med ball

then

weights, some weights are pretty tough on the cns though

others might say otherwise though, but those are my thoughts

Depends entirely on your ability. The med ball session is highest for all but the fastest sprinters doing a 400m totla volume session.
Weights would be third in all cases, I’d think.

Really So the medball would be more cns draining, except the top guys.

Then how come the med ball is done after the sprint stuff for the developing sprinters?

huh… that’s kinda odd… medballs are less effective at developing speed that sprints, and less effective at develping strength than weights, but yet tougher on the cns… then what’s the purpose of doing them?

Look at the volumes + you have accels with the medballs. It is also relative to level of ability. Medballs for you is much different than for elites and sprints are different for you than for elites, etc.

so should some one at my level not even bother with them? and instead just stick to doing sprints or weights? (by the way currently i have two speed and weights days, and i was thinking of adding a third high day, but one thats not as high as sprints or weights and less stress on the hams, which i thought could have been a medball throw session)…

Dude, you don’t have to worry that much as you probably will fatigue before you can even tax your nervous system in any training. If you have seen the gpp dvd, you can see how sprints, weights, and plyos can be done daily.
