This is a fairly fundamental question but it’s something I’ve heard different oppinions on.
I’ve heard that the leg you jump off of (e.g jumping to dunk a basketball - left leg if right handed and vice versa) should go in front, however I am right handed, jump off my left leg but start with my right in front.
Now I can also start just as well by placing my left leg in front but tend to feel more comfortable with the right in front.
Technically what is the correct leg to place in front if you’re right handed? Or does it even matter?
Not too sure which one gives the best results right now. funney, I used to start with the left in front when I was a kid and then switched all of a sudden.
I guess it’s a matter of more experimenting.
I have no idea about sprint starts, but our Olympic lifting coach wouldn’t let athletes choose which foot went forward on jerks. He figured once you started to think too much about it, you’d get kind of confused about which way was really more comfortable.
So at some point before he started teaching you jerks, he’d just come up behind you and give you a surprise shove in the back. Whichever foot you stepped forward and caught yourself with was the one you would then step forward with for jerks.
