All I see is guys with decent vertical leeping ability…How about you…what’s your vertical.
my verticals rubbish. probably around 20" despite a 2xbw full squat and a sub 5 40 time. also because I measured it properly. I would estimate taking at least 10" off most peoples verts. we are talking about the same test where you stand absolutely still, reach as high as you can go and then measure how high above that you can go? All the figures bandied around on here are laughable tbh. I guarantee you noone on this board would have more than a 35", and the majority not over 30" if tested accurately. its so easy to cheat yourself on these tests.
How would you cheat by jumping off of a step or two, like they supposedly do when they take basketball players verts.

sorry
Don’t hate man. Just because you don’t have a 30 inch vertical don’t assume people are cheating…And as for know one being able to jump 35 inches or higher on this board, I wish I could bet against you and prove you wrong. When I did my 32 inch vertical…more than one, I have just woken up not more than an hour and a half earliar. And It was after doing max push-ups…max situps… max squats…
And you don’t have to eb world class to have a good vertical. I can name 20 people in my neighborhood have a higher vertical than me.
I’d say the how far above the rim test is very accurate, a 5’10" guy that can dunk is certainly jumping more then 30 inches. Also, have in mind that most of the people that have posted have played or play basketball, it’s like doing tons of vertical hurdle jumps, you gain a lot of vertical jump ability just playing basketball, if you jump a lot of course. Your mechanics also seem to adapt and perfection the more you play, someone, so someone who doesn’t play is at a disadvantage, they probably simply don’t know how to jump as high as they can.
Actually, I tend to agree with you that these tests are quite susceptible to “inflation” if you are testing yourself. However, your guarantee does not hold up. I achieved a 36" standing vertical at the Pro Football Combines earlier this year. The combines are quite strict with respect to the test protocol - no steps or pre-jumps are allowed and they use a Vertec to measure the height. My results at the combines were about 2" less than my all-time personal best when “self-testing.”
LOL I jumped 26inches as a skinny 14 year old with big legs
No training or much jumping at all, wasn’t into that sort of stuff back then. Just raw jumping ability, wasn’t all that hard
Im 5’10" and about 165 now (used to be 175) and i stood under the rim and just jumped and the rim went to about where my finger starts. how high would that be? im guessing about 32". Kweli seems to have about the same build as me and he has the same vert it seems. The only training i do that might help my vert is the power clean and its derivetiveswith plyos. i also the the squat and bench. i squat 315 only and clean 245. im gonna try to get 35" but i dont know if its possible. when i did that jump it was at the end of football season so i had lost strength and ezplosivness.
Why not have someone measure how high the tops of your fingertips reach?
What would be the use telling lies on a mesageboard? I believe the guys. When I started training my vert jump was 23" only. There were 2 guys in the group who - without any special training, no plyos etc. - always jumped 50% higher than me. I felt like a stone beside a spring. (I think they could do 35")
More than squatting and real plyos single-legged jumps up some steps in the stadium, or even at home, helped me. (Dept Jumps later.)
First 5x8x 2Steps (approx. 14"), later 5x8x 3Steps (approx. 21").
30" for me (5’10/170) ment that I could touch the BB-ring, now I can grab it. But it’s a long time I’m stuck at about 31-32".
I knew a lot of BB guys my size, some even slightly shorter, who could dunk. So there’s a lot of guys capable of >30" I believe.
I would be interested in vert. Jumps compared to standing LG and standing Triple Jump. My standing triple Jump was alwas lousy (never more than 22’
what is a good. and averag vertical leap for a senior high school fdfensive back in football.
for high school standards, i believe you can visit www.biggerfasterstronger.com and you can download the standards in pdf format. Your stats look okay to me. But is that versus your high school competition, or do you want to go beyond them. I hate comparing my athletes to others, I want to compare my athletes to the best.
Well by next season i want to be able to run a hand timed 4.45, have a 37" vertical, clean 265, squat 360 and bench 290. I remember my coach saying i could do a 3.9 pro agility but i dont remember seeing him time me.
you need to get to the RCA dome brother.
haha why whats there? i know a 3.9 is really really good. but i never did see him time me so im guessing that i did like 4.3 or something. i have heard of guys doing pro agilitys in the 3.6-3.7 though.
That’s pretty darn good if you don’t mind me saying so, especially for being in high school. I have a kid who is a beast, a beast, and he’s only done a 4.2. He runs a 4.4 forty, power cleans 300 pounds, squats 440 pounds, and has bench pressed 290. Congratulations. That’s impressive.
wow that guy does sound like a beast! what year is he? senior maybe? And what position does he play? but as i said before i think im only capable of a 4.3, and thats with running a 4.5 40y.
He’s a senior right now. He’ll play division I.
What would my vertical leap be if I’m 5’9 if i can take 1 step (vertical leap style) and jump on top(not the hood, the roof) of a nissan pathfinder landing on two feet on top.
