Waiting for it

Charlie,
I just got back into doing some shorter acceleration work after returning from Toronto and I noticed an interesting phenomenon that I didn’t feel with the longer, more gradual build-ups.

When I do 30s, I find that the acceleration feels modest for about 20m, and then suddenly at about 20-25m I get this power surge that lifts me up and kicks me into a higher gear. It feels like I’m suddenly 20lbs lighter. It happens like clockwork every time.

Is this how it’s supposed to feel?

Good to see you back to some action, Flash!

flash i am no way on the same level as charlie but i think you are feeling this sensation when you are at a more upright position.over the first 30 of a sprint is block clearence and so on but after that comes acceleration top speed etc, when you’re in a more upright position the speed seems less in most people but in fact you are running alot faster.

best of luck flash

just on another note.all the time i spent with the usa’s finest sprinters they would all talk to me about “waiting for it”.after all these years i have grasped the theory.basically its letting the movement or in other words letting the acceleration happen itself.

guys if you try to push anything while sprinting you are defeating the purpose.this starts from the reaction to the finish line.if you try to push the gun you will 1-false start/2-delay your reaction by trying instead of letting it happen and just relax.its the same during clearence/acceleration etc.

Body position might be part of it, or it might be the power surge that’s putting me into the upright position. I don’t know.

The sensation I’m feeling is just what Charlie has described in the past, like someone is giving me a strong upward shove into my lower back.

What I find interesting is the sudden way it kicks in. It’s like popping into a higher gear in a sports car.
