Unloading Volumes

I had a question regarding the volumes of speed work during unloading weeks in a meso.

Say you did 200-220-240 for Acc. Dev. during the 1st 3 weeks of a meso, would 180m during the 4th week be too much of a drop? Is there a certain way you should decrease volumes for different types of workouts (i.e. - SE, speed endurance, maxV, etc.)?

This subject is one I’m confused on as I now have the dates of my meets for next year and am in the process of making out my blueprint for this year. Any assitance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have been wondering about that for quite sometime now 400Stud, I just didn’t know how to word the question. Thanks for putting it out there. Someone help please.

What phase of training?
What elements are you emphasising?
What type of acceleration development are you doing?

Well each phase will be different, but let’s say GPP (only 4 weeks for me) and I’m emphasizing the acceleration part of my race and my acc. dev. is just reps of 10-30m.

I’m doing acc. dev. during 2 mesos – GPP and the 1st meso of SPP. During the first meso of SPP I’ll be starting to incorporate Split Runs as well to start in with the endurance training.

Hope this helped clarify some things.

I don’t think you’d need to back off at all. Very unlikely that the intensity of these runs would warrant it. You’ll probably build the whole 4 weeks, its basically accumulation.

So I can build for 7 weeks, basically, and then back off on week 8 of acc. dev. workouts? Or just build up all 8 weeks since intensity isn’t a big factor?
