Tyson Gay 19.58

How did he get 10.08?

Watching the race on the video, the time on the screen is not synchronised with the pictures, it was 19.3 as he passed the finish line, and about 9.8 at 100m point, so your colleague is probably right. I would need a high quality video.

I read that Spearmon had 10.61…

Is that a PB for Wariner?

no…wariner ran 20.19 in 06…

For both Gay and Spearmon, he used the HD NTSC video and Avid Liquid. He reminded me that I should’ve reported it as 10.08v and 10.61v since they are not true FAT (as defined by USATF) derivatives.

With segmented video, beginning with the gun flash, the software chronometer ran to the designated track markings. He was at the meet last year got a chance to plot out designated distances for certain events. I also know for a fact that he never uses the TV chronometer and utilizes the flash as much as can be attained.

With Liquid he’s able to triangulate (with some error of course) a given target position to offset conditions associated with parallax viewing. Though 3D, it doesn’t measure up to a fully compatible DLT process. It’s much closer to that with straightaway races - given known camera positions and so forth.

As I understand it he also used Kinovea and Eagle Eye, which has certain similar functions, for validation checking. If memory serves he used Dartfish for Bolt’s analysis.

OK those times make sense. Only times with photofinish should be considered as FAT however, from various analysis, the best estimated times are 9.96 by Bolt in Beijing and 10.05 by Gay in WAF’06. This 10.08 seems to be the third ever. As for Spearmon, his 9.37 flying 100m is the 4th ever behind Johnson 9.20, Tommie Smith 9.31 and Usain Bolt 9.34.

Any chance he has 150m times for NY? Even from 149.42 blue mark?

I will ask him (Sprint X). However, I don’t believe he has video on the race. I will report any analysis here that he develops from that race.

By the way, he uses that which you laid out in a T&FN post a few years ago as the working approach and format for these type of analyses. He calls it, PJ’s ATF (analytical timing format).

To be fair, i use (former GDR scientist) Gundlach’s ATF!

 Fair enough!!

By the way - how are your athletes doing? What’s the itinerary with your program for GP/GL and WC? I always wish that each season is kinder for you and your training group.

We are doing ok, with the ups and downs everybody knows but the whole thing is going pretty well. It will have to because this year is special in regard to partners/sponsors due to the economical situation. Our road will cross most of the GP/GL en route to WC. Thanks for your encouragement!
