While sitting at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.
Now, while doing this, draw the number “6” in the air with your right hand.
Your foot will change direction.
IT’S PROOF OF YOUR BODY’S NEURAL PROGRAMMING. AND FOR THOSE WHO CAN OCCASIONALLY OVER-RIDE THE “INSTINCT TO SYNCHRONISE” IT’S ALSO PROOF THAT YOU CAN, WITH CONSIDERABLE CONCENTRATION, CHANGE YOUR MOTOR PATTERNING (AT LEAST FOR A WHILE)…
The only people who can do this well (without staggering movement or modifying the circular motion to being temporarily not) have abnormal brain structure.
Actually not (although I haven’t been checked out by a shrink, either). But I DID play classical organ when younger. Now, to play Bach, you not only need to be able to play the pedals with BOTH feet, you also have to be able play the manuals with both hands at the same time–and moving the hands from manual to manual WHILE playing a fugue or something–all of which you have to practice.
While I didn’t believe this thing could be done without the foot changing direction before I tried it, for ME, doing this without the foot changing direction is “duh” level simple…and it doesn’t matter which foot I use.
Neural recruitment patterns. You know that saying “practice makes permanent?”
