4-1-08
Track workout
4x200m, relay style

Afternoon workout
Ran routes and went over plays. Didn’t catch the ball that well today. I was trying to be a perfectionist out there today, and that was probably the reason why. I’m also always nervous when the head coach is watching me catch the ball.

“Many people allow the perceptions of others to inhibit and tear down their self-confidence.”

During the period we just ran routes and caught balls. Only dropped 2 balls today. I felt a lot more relaxed and focused out there today. As long as I can find a way to stay focused and relaxed, I should be alright.

After school
Deadlift-worked up to 305x1
Incline-worked up to 205x1
Box Squat-275-4, 295x4, 365x2, 405x2
ABS

Tried my best to conserve all of my energy for tomorrow’s meet. Too bad the coach watched all my sets on box squat. I sure hope my quad feels better tomorrow.

Track meet

Bad news… Something very bad happened in my hamstring as I finished the 4x100m. It’s either a cramp or a pull. It doesn’t make sense though, I warmed up properly and everything. I’m guessing it was just a cramp, but it is still sore as I try to fully extend it. We have a district track meet coming this following Monday already, I don’t know if I will be able to run or not. I think the cause of this was just being overloaded with that heavy squat workout yesterday. The coaches are never giving us enough time to recover.

You deadlifted and squatted heavy the day before a meet… it happens.

If the coach is doing this kind of crap, why bother training for track? You’re probably wasting your time doing such stupid workouts the day before a meet and guess what–now you’re hurt and can’t do the workouts for either! I feel bad for you, but maybe you could speak up to one of the coaches and explain the situation.

Well, track is almost over anyways. Sucks that I never once this season got to run with fresh legs. I’m supposed to come back on Monday for district, but I’m not sure how bad of an injury it is. I guess I better speak up anyways because nobody on the team is even matching their top times from last year. I hope this injury isn’t serious… :frowning:

I hope you’ve been icing–don’t think about working out for at least 2-3 days! Then go from there.

Will do. It could be just a strain. The coach told me that if it was pull or tear, then I wouldn’t be able to walk. If it is a strain then how long do you think it will take to recover?

That’s some bullshit because I pull my hamstring and I could walk the same day, albeit not comfortably. What do you think a strain is ? It is probably not serious, but not something to mess around with and is likely from the “training” that has been going on lately.

How long will it take to recover? Varies a lot… 10 days is supposed to be the minimum, but that is with immediate treatment, massage, EMS, etc. It took me about 3 weeks to get back into the same form I was speed wise when I had my minor strain and 4 weeks to PR again.

Pull/strain/tear all synonymous. Whenever you strain/pull a muscle you tear it to some degree, the degree is the primary factor for recovery time. Walking is obviously not a bad sign. Black/blue indicates bleeding and typically then you’ve done some good damage.

10 days minimum! I don’t even have access to EMS or Massage. They expect me to run at district on Monday! There isn’t any visible black/blue bleeding around it, so does this mean it isn’t as serious? Now that we started spring football and still lifting heavy, I cannot see the coaches let me fully recover from this injury. I’m really getting tired of these coaches.

no way u gonna run a 100m on mon. you may want to try and borrow or order an ems machine they are cheap.

Mine had no bruising, I used EMS, light palpating, etc… 10 days minimum unless you want to not only run like shit, but likely injure yourself again and cause even more damage. Your coaches expect people to workout hurt? No way. If they do, then you should ask yourself if your long term health is worth risking to satisfy a few coaches, even though your performance will still be shit!

hows ur hammy?

I see the trainer tomorrow. Right now I’m icing it and taking lots of ibuprofen. I have no clue whether its a strain, tear, etc. I highly doubt I will run tomorrow anyways.

Im sure its not a tear, its probably a grade one pull anywhere from 10-21 days.

I hope your right. Its just depressing that I’ve already dealt with 2 injuries on my right leg this track season. I’m not worried about track at all anymore because I’m going to a QB camp at TCU on the 25th to catch balls from the best QB’s in the state. I’d rather be healthy for that than anything.

two injuries aint jack, i have had three within three months. the key with dealing with injuries is not getting depressing and being able to move on with the rehab program full speed - be positive and have ur game plan ready. With all the injuries i had this year i will not let them win bc i have bust my ass too hard just to give up.

Yep, treat the rehab stuff just like you would your training (be consistent and stick to the plan). You’ll be back, just a minor ham strain.

Not sure if I will be back quick enough for district tomorrow though. The team needs me tomorrow, I injured my hammy last Thursday so do you think that only 3-4 days is enough rest?

Nope, in most cases u need at least 10days unless u have a muscle knot.
