Training to Enter the Next Level.

Im not really sure who runs it, I am going to compete against other schools in my area. It is not by the UIL, and the UIL is what most Texas sports follow by. Im looking forward to get at least a 250lb bench, 385lb squat, and a 350lb deadlift. That equals out to 985. This is my first meet ever, and from what I am told is that it is all about listening to the judges commands and executing correctly.

Meet Results-

Squat-400(real easy), suit helped about 50lbs, could have gone more
Bench-230, suit didn’t help at all
Deadlift(real easy)-370, suit helped about 50lbs
Total-1000

I wasn’t able to lose those last 2 lbs. I had to compete in the 181’s. I placed 6th, but my coaches said that if I were to compete in the 165’s, then I would have won 2nd or 3rd place. I was only given 3 attempts per lift, so I wasn’t able to fully max out. The judges said that I had about 100lbs left in me for the squat.

nice numbers man. What kind of suit did you use? Single ply?

Thanks, I plan on reaching possible 1100 total next meet. The suits our coaches provide for us is Inzer. Are you a big powerlifter?

Weight-167.2(need to lose 1.7lbs)

Track Workouts have started. I threw up at the end of the workout. The bad thing is that we only did 1100meters worth of running and I still threw up, I need to get in “track shape.” I did pretty good on sets of 4 today, I felt like I could do at least one more rep on squat and bench today on my last sets.

Forget losing the weight unless it’s very very important to you. This is the time to get bigger, faster and stronger. Use powerlifting as a compliment to your football and track rather than compromising the other two for the sake of lifting.

I agree 100%. But I feel like I really need show the coaches that I am by far the hardest worker and the strongest, and fastest skill guy they have next year. I also feel like I am not getting enough competition against other schools. I feel like I need to get my adrenaline pumping more often and competing to win not just against myself all the time. I will go to Regionals, and who knows maybe even state if I am in the 165 lb class.

Finished the track workout hard this morning. I don’t understand why my weight hasn’t changed with the additional running I have been doing. I have even cut back about 1000 calories each day. I guess I really have no more weight to lose. I only have like 6-8%bf.

Yesterday-Off/Appointments

Track Workout
10x100m Curves.

During the Period
Matt Drills
Bag Drills
Speed Latter+Star Drill
Bungee Cord Drills

These drills are getting old. I still get tired and fatigued during these drills but the besides that, there isn’t nothing else helping us. We didn’t even do any explosive jumps or sleds today. All this crap does is work your cardio system. If only the coaches knew better ways to get faster.

Squat-225x4, 275x4, 295x4, 330x4
Decline Bench-3x6, 60’s
Clean and Press-3x6

The meet is tomorrow. I wondered why the coaches had us squat heavy the day before the meet today. I don’t think it should hurt. I am looking forward to getting at least 1100 total tomorrow. 240-250 on bench, 450-460 on squat, and 400-420 on deadlift.

Not my best day…

Weight-164
Squat-425
Bench-225
Deadlift-370
Total-1020
Placed 5th in my class

Not sure if it was smart for the coaches to have us squat heavy the day before the meet. About all of my teammates and I felt like we had no energy in our legs. The last meet is in 2 weeks. I don’t think I should even bother to stay at this weight. My coaches want me to, but thats only so we can win at the meets. I think putting on the weight would be the best decision right now.

Squat-235x6, 295x4, 325x2, 355x2

Not sure if those lifts were legit. My teammates might had given me some assistance. Im not even sure I got low enough on the squat. The coach said I did though. I guess I won’t wear a bench suit anymore since I could only get 225x1 on saturday. Now for some reason I got 235x2?

The coaches talked about doing sled pulls and tire flipping if the weather is good on thursday. Then they gave us this long speech about using all of you energy for every drill aka don’t save nothing. That’s a little hard when you get zero recovery.

Speed Work(on track w/spikes, low volume)
3x40yds
3x20m
2x10m

Glad to finally do some speed work. The 40’s felt fast. Too bad I couldn’t find anybody to time me. Im hoping to run a consistent mid 4.6 next time we test. I know my personal best is 4.52, but before I ran that, I ran a 4.7 twice.

Matt drills
Backwards sled pulls
Speed Latter+Cone drills

Glad to get this day over with. Those Backward sled pulls fried my quads. I plan on doing some more speed work tomorrow if I feel fresh enough. My lower limbs are a little tight right now.

Box Squat-275x6, 315x4, 345x2, 365x1, 385x1, 405x1, 425x1

I pretty much maxed out on box squat. Realize that the box is about 3" above parallel, and we just touch and lift. The weather isn’t too good around here right now. My allergies are terrible. I woke up with a headache this morning because my allergies were so bad.

your pretty strong man!!!

Thanks, but remember that the squat of the last workout was “box squat.” Which is about 3" above parallel. If I were to squat raw and parallel, it would only be around 360-380, we’ll find out next week. I am still not as strong as I was back in the summer.

Track Workout
Block Work
15min Stadium run
Bleacher Hops

Afternoon Workout
Matt Drills
Bungee Drills
Bag Drills/Speed Latter

Regardless if I have a powerlifting meet this week, I am going to start the weight gain back up again. I wasn’t as good as I thought I was at the sport, and its not like you get any kind of recognition. The first track meet this year starts next thursday. The coach hasn’t told me what event I will run yet. As long as I run the 100m, I fine with whatever they put me at.

dont worry about the weight gain, gotta get ready to play that slot wr position in college like welker. all jokes aside, i wouldnt worry about weight gain, just get as fast as possible.
