Let’s get it all on the table (mainly for my use, but you guys’s as well). What are the different ways to recover post-workout? Here’s what I know so far:
Common ways to decrease or eliminate D.O.M.S is the hot/cold shower IMMEDIATELY following your workout and cool down. The cool down is critical in decreasing soreness. After my workouts I dribble a basketball walking down the road for 20 minutes, this is a great cool down for basketball players and helps with soreness a lot. I also like to have a protein shake 30-45 minutes after I finish my workout. I haven’t really done any massaging, if somebody posts some good massages to do I may start doing them.
I would like to know how much more effective an ice bath is over cold tap water bath/shower when contrasted with hot bath/sauna/hot shower, regarding body recovery, not CNS…not noticeable, a little, alot?
All though you won’t take any notice of this, I think recovery is well overrated. The talk of 4:1 ratio of Carbs/Protein, people disagreeing with it, people using the scales to weighout food to get the exact measurements for “optimum results” yeah right etc<<< That almost borders on the “get a life” phrase.
Just throw in a plate full of pasta, tin of tuna over the top of that washed down with a couple litres of water, lol… Your always gonna be sore after a workout until the body gets accustomed to the stress placed upon it.
