And I suggested lowering the volume of low intensity abs because I’m not sure that they don’t cause fatigue. I’m in the same boat regarding tempo.

I think that tempo does exact a toll on the body, but over time, its presence allows for a higher overall workload. Basically, tempo causes fatigue but it helps us to handle a higher load. Same goes for abs. Even low intensity abs require some regenerative resources, and when you add something to your program (like high intensity abs), volume from somewhere needs to be cut.
