What can be done to prevent it.
I suffer from it to varying degree’s - nic and by far the best prevention / recovery I’ve used is doing drop heel raises off a step after speed sessions -
2 - 3 sets of 10 - 12 single or double legs with or without weights - but ease into it
they seem to stretch / strengthen and rehabilitate at the same time -
If you’ve got a serious problem tho get it checked by an expert - which is what got me into drop heel sets - try and avoid ‘pumping up’ the calves by going too high
for rehabilitation u can do up to 3 x 3 sets a day after icing 4 10 mins - but if ur uninjured then after speedwork could be enough
eccentric heal drops have been proven and used by certain therapists with great results.for maintaince in the achilles do the drops 3times per week,2x20 doubles,2x10 singles.i always do these as part of my warm-up.
… not to mention developing ankle and calf flexibility
