Tempo on sand

I know that sand isn’t suitable for speed work, but I am interested to know if this is also true for tempo work.

I am thinking about doing some tempo work on sand when the weather makes it difficult to do on grass. The majority of my tempo sessions would still be on grass though.

So long as it doesn’t hurt your ankles then it’s ok but try and keep it on grass or firm sand.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The sand I am thinking of is quite firm.

Hi
i used to do some speed endurance on a beach - however it was HARD sand and more smoother than the local grass track i used. However, getting there was a problem (for 1 you had to swim…)

You planning on doing the tempo on Hard sand or soft sand?? I would go hard sand - and bare foot to work them feet muscles too. just look out for rocks etc.

Maybe once per wk or fortnight would be fine.

I tried it out on some hard sand last night and it felt pretty good.

I plan on only doing it when it’s too wet to run on grass. It will probably only end up being once a fortnight or so.

I train on sand every other session for GPP lactic sessions and tempo sessions, doesnt matter how soft it is for me and keeps any tenonditis etc controlled whilst working the muscles.
