Tempo in Soccer Cleats

Anybody use cleats to get a better grip on wet grass? I was thinking of buying a pair but they look like they don’t have much cushioning… any experiences?

dont need grip for tempo.

yep we use them. work just fine.

whats the point in using cleats for tempo runs, the speeds are low so grip shouldnt be a problem. i would have shin problems if i did 2000m of tempo runs in fb cleats.

I like tempo barefoot whenever possible, but when the grass is really wet and muddy, then traction can sometimes be a problem even at relatively low speeds. In these cases, I have use some old track spikes and even my football cleats once in a while.

my feet would kill if i did tempo work in cleats every week.

When you do 200m turnarounds on a soaked field, it’s like a slip & slide out there. I’d rather get some grippy/waterproof soccer boots and not have to worry about it. I’m unsure if there’d be shin/foot problems though…

i dont run my tempo runs that fast so grip never been a problem.

Since coming back from injury, I do all my hill sessions with footy boots and tempo sessions barefoot when it’s relatively dry and footy boots it’s very wet/raining.

Some people don’t like thier foot “slipping” under them when it has been raining. If it isn’t an issue for you then that is good but for many it poses a real problem.

That’s why you don’t do it every week, only when the field is slippery!

i understand what ur saying, i hate conditioning in my football cleats after practice let alone during 2000m of tempo work, if the field was wet i would do tempo work on the track like im doing now with no problems.

Any problems with your feet or shins when running that far in cleats?

Haven’t had any shin problems since sorting out my ankle mobility and doing barefoot warm-ups, though I haven’t completely tested it out completely with a long tempo session yet.

i truly hate soccer cleats…they absolutely kill my feet whenever i wear them (which is quite often because i am a soccer player)…track spikes feel soooo much better to me…if i were you i would avoid soccer cleats for tempo and would just stick with cushioned running shoes
