I’m going to be working with a few bigger athletes ( 245-275 lbs ) and was looking for some input regarding extensive tempo workouts. In using the high/low approach, should any restrictions be placed on the length of the runs? Some of the guys play football and some play hockey.
Over 200lbs Tempo Workout
Short Circuit:
50+50+50
50+100+50
50+50+50
(100m Walk in between sets.)
Long Circuit:
50+50+50
50+50+100+50
50+100+100+50
50+100+50+50
50+50+50
(100 Walk in between sets.)
Shorter distances -as durations may be longer- and longer recovery periods than normal should work well.
Hope it helps!
Others?
I was thinking along the lines of what you both suggested. I also thought about keeping the volume consistent and manipulating the rest intervals over time to increase the density of the workout?
Thanks for your input.
Carl Valle did an article on Tempo for larger guys a few years ago. Try the address below.
