stride length

Hey guys need soem more help!!

So I am having trouble with developing stride length, in my initial drive phase I am not getting full extention on my strides and I have a tendency to spin my wheels so to say and not really cover ground. My coach puts it this way I have not yet developed the torque or momentum to start letting things open up and spin there fore it looks really nice but needs to be put in fast forward!!

I have tried thinking of spendign more time on the ground and almost pushing down the track and not up (verticaly).

Any ideas or cues some of you have used in the past to get that idea ingrained into your mind. Or is it just a matter of repetition and execution?
