I’ve read, I’m sure you all have, that stretching contributes significantly to strength of the muscle. I’ve also heard it depends what type of stretching you do. This is not an “order of stretches in a session” type thread so much as what stretches can (if at all) improve the strength to run fast. Is it just a case of static stretches or P.N.F or even loaded stretching? which may help running the most?
I do dynamic stretches as part of the warm up.
yeah you have the right idea. PNF and loaded stretching both might contribute to strength. Search on the forum for EQIs. Tony Schwartz, who wrote a chapter in Christian Thibadeau’s book about them has a few posts about this topic. It seems to help strengthen the muscle at extreme ROMs, which may possibly carry over to some degree throughout the entire ROM.
I also think it would be very good for tendon and ligament strength. The controlled and prolonged stretching of the muscles/ligaments I would imagine would be a good stimulus for ligament strengthening.
Thanks, so I’ll incoperate a variety, dynamic, static and p.n.f though I think I’ll leave out the iso’s
Charlie talks about PNF stretching and when and how to incorporate into the warm-up on the GPP video. It definatly helps with strecth through the ROM.
