Its all a personal preference thing. Some athletes/coaches will agrue saying static stretching is bad (detrimental) but personally i have been doing static stretching then dynamic stretching my whole life and i have adapted to it and that is how i get my body ready. The problem i think arises when you overdo the staic stretching and correct me if i am saying this wrong but an overstretched muscle cannot apply as much force and is more prone to injury in that state. I think a combination of both static and dynamic is best but as i said it is an individual thing.
Staying Supple: The Bountiful Pleasures of Stretching by John Jerome is a really good book about stretching, flexibility and how it ties to athletics, the book also has a chapter with illustrations of stretches you can try. The book is very deep. Someone on this forum reccomended it and I bought it and have not been dissapointed it’s a great book.
