strength training program

The only thing the program was missing was some good ole ol’s.

James
In training your current guys, did you or will you this off season have some of the skill guys following a block model and others more of a concurrent/complex-parallel model? I know you’ve stated that for most team sports athletes the concurrent approach will prove effective, for most, up to the professional ranks. I would guess that even in a sport that requires several, different motor demands, there will still come time when a concentrated, block type of training is necessitated?

I use what I believe to be an aggregate of block methodolgy, CFTS, and my own original work and planning strategy for American football.

I’m not willing to discuss my model in any great detail as I will, sooner or later, put a project together that outlines the subject matter.

Guess you didn’t like my ol’s joke but on a serious note, your list of exercises performed you didn’t list any agility drills, im curious why no agility work was performed.

I got the joke; I just couldn’t think of an amusing response.

I thought I listed the cone drills, maybe I forgot to mention that.

We varied performing the 3 cone and the 5-10-5 before and after the sprints. usually after on the days when the sprints were +20yd and before if they were only doing 10yd reps.

Just curious did you notice the samething with your athletes, I remember when I were training for prodays the more i prac the agility drills the worst I became at them. For example my first 3-4 weeks I saw improvement after that I seem to taper off (tech wise). My point; I think some coaches spend too much times on the agility drills.

I fully agree and saw the same phenomenon with my guys which is why, although we performed the drills every other day, the volume was very low (ergo 1 to no more than 3 reps per drill)

The keys that i stress to my athletes with the cone drill is not to run them at 100% but more in the 90% range and under control, bc if you think about it you only sprinting 5yds one way -10yds the other etc and the athletes who try and go 100% always run a slower time.

can we get back to my question for a minute? is it the good program for a high school track athlete? or should i look into a different program like wsfsbII or somethin else?

We already gave you your answer, your program suck

James you mention the placement of agility after sprints if the sprints are only 10yds, I am wondering how often you will limit sessions to 10 yards throught the whole cycle. Do you train the big skill more frequently at a 10-15 yard limit than the small skill.
