1- prevents the COM from droping on ground contact
2- Increased power on toe-off due the to re- use of elastic energy stores
Eccentric type movements can increase stiffness in the lower limb.
Are good Drop and after Depth Jump?

Drop jumps are good however the extensors need to be pre- trained or the chance of injury is high. Also avoid jumping off a high height or using excessive loads.
Another good exercise for developing eccentric strength is the hang snatch or hang cleans.
