Starting/Acceleration

Does my weight(190lbs) affect me as much as I think it does at the starts of sprints? Im slow to get out of the block but my flying speed usually makes up for it (in the 100-200 but not 55 lol)

Spring i ran @ 175 and now im a little over 185lbs for indoor and same issue i had last year…slow start

my legs got a lot stronger so i dont think its my strength. just wanna make sure that i need to drop weight.

I wouldn’t say you necessarily need to lose weight. Many great starters are fairly heavy.

well most olympic guys are around 170 with very low body fat

i have like 12-14% BF running 15 pounds heavier than i did 8 months ago

obviously i wont get to their status easily but im thinking if i maintain strength and drop to 170-175…how much would that help?

maintaining strength completely and losing weight will make you faster generally, trick is can you really do it?

How/why did you gain this amount of weight in 8 months?

a lot of it was muscle and then some of it was water retention from creatine

Is this new muscle mostly upper body, lower body, or both? If your are much stronger in the legs, then your start and early accel should have improved. If you lose any performance due to the added weight, it would be in the top end. Perhaps you haven’t yet fully converted your new found limit strength to functional strength. Maybe some med ball work, steep short hills, sled pulls and/or plyos would help you utilize your new strength during the start/accel phase.

my legs got stronger and bigger while upperbody got bigger

i have some BF to lose in the stomach and love handles but rest of body is fine.

my calves arent very good although pretty strong
